Summary

This full-day workshop introduces online course accessibility through a Universal Design for Learning (UDL) theoretical lens. Reasons for building and maintaining accessible courses are contextualized, explained and demonstrated from both a student and institutional perspective. Emphasis is given to the use and evaluation of features within an LMS.

Abstract

This workshop utilizes multiple format types including whole group lectures and demonstrations, small group discussions, and hands-on activities for individuals or groups to apply new knowledge and skills. Additionally, participants are given access to an online course where they can engage, create and evaluate online content. In this course, participants can access strategies for accessible best practices and engage pre-recorded video interviews of individuals with various disabilities emphasizing the learning objectives for this workshop. Captions and downloadable transcripts are available for every video shared during the workshop. At the end of the session, participants will confidently create content in the following platforms: Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, Canvas. Additionally, participants will be able to apply UDL concepts to their particular learning contexts.
