Weekly Update 10/8

Hello –

We had such a great week back from break.  The true highlight was getting to go on the field trip to the Fire Safety Village.  The students had such a good time and we got so many compliments on our impressive behavior!

This Friday you will be receiving an email to sign up for conferences during the week of October 18th.

Next week we will be working on the overall structure of a story (retelling the beginning, middle and end).  We will be finishing up our unit on the 5 regions of Georiga and continuing to work on word problems in math where we count money.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

Weekly Update 9/17/21

Hello Parents –

We had another busy week this week. We worked on understanding how illustrations add to the meaning of a story.  For grammar we started to learn about irregular plural nouns.  We will continue both of these standards next week.

In math we switched gears and reviewed making bar and picture graphs.  Then we took that information and answered questions about the graphs.

The five regions of Georgia are what we are learning about in social studies.  We learned about the Appalachian Plateau this week.

Just a reminder to send in any permission slips for the Safety Village and if you can volunteer for the Fall Festival please sign up on that link .

Have a great weekend!

Monday 3/16

Good Morning!

Welcome to our first day of digital learning!  Please sign on to Clever and make sure your child can get in to the apps. Here are their assignments for today.

  • Read Works – everyone should have at least one new reading.  If you have more, only ONE is required each day.  I will be getting results and if your child struggles, I might re- assign the article and questions the next day.
  • Class Hero – I need everyone to finish the SKIP COUNTING BY 5s assignment.  If your child has completed that assignment, they may choose either ADDITON WITH IMAGES or DOUBLES.
  • Brain Pop Jr. – please watch the video on SHAPES and take the quiz – this is a new app so if your child struggles with it – don’t do it.
  • Read a book for 20 minutes
  • Write for 10 minutes about anything.  They can journal to me, to another family member or make up a story.

Please let me know if you have any questions.  Later this week, I will be giving pages in the math book that go with the geometry standard we would have started this week.

Weekly Update 12/2

Hello –

I hope that everyone had a great and relaxing break.  We have 3 weeks until another break and we have a lot to accomplish :-).

Reading – we are going to continue to work on supplying reasons to support an author’s point in non fiction text.  I will be working with students on leveled readings to first answer questions about the text and then look at those answers to pull out the author’s point and supply supporting details.  This is a harder skill that we will touch back on later in the year.

Math – we are going to continue to work on adding and subtracting 2 digit numbers using a variety of strategies.  Here is a video that shows how we use an open numberline as one of the strategies.

Social Studies – We are wrapping up learning about 3 major historical figures in Georgia – James Oglethorpe, Tomochichi and Mary Musgrove.  Then we will be moving into Science to learn about pushes and pulls.

Please let me know if you have any questions!

Weekly Update 11/15

Hello –

This week have been working hard and enjoying a “normal” week.  It looks like everyone is getting healthy and I am thrilled to have (almost) perfect attendance this week :-).

Here is a recap of what we have been working on.

Reading – Asking and Answering questions but focusing on non fiction texts.  We are integrating this with our informational writing standards this week.  Students have been reading through several resources about the first Thanksgiving.  As we are reading through the passages we are answering questions as well as asking questions on items we would like to know more about.  Next week we will transfer this information to graphic organizers to help us turn it into a formal writing.

Phonics – We have been working with words that end in -ed.  We learned that the -ed ending can sound like a “d” or a “t”.

Math – We are working on 2 step word problems.  We have been using a “first – then” graphic organizer to help us set up the problems.  This helps us to determine the operation needed for each step as well as keeping our numbers organized.

Social Studies – After learning about James Oglethorpe we have now learned about Tomochichi.  Here is a quick video to introduce this peace maker in Georgia’s history.

https://www.todayingeorgiahistory.org/content/tomochichi

Next week we will have different lunch schedules due to the Celebrate Families lunches.  I will send an email to let you know the changes.

Have a great weekend,

Mrs. Brantley
