Catering to elderly people who still live in their own apartment building or home, or in hospice care, is the specialty of ANEW Health Care Services, 7425 Harwood Ave.
ANEW provides what it calls "one stop home care." A team of people go through the older person's needs, step-by-step, said Ruth Ryshke, director of operations.
A holistic approach — including a full medical evaluation, help with money management, setting an exercise regimen and even installing grab bars around areas like stairs and bathrooms — will be considered by ANEW specialists.
The locally operated business has been in Wauwatosa since 1983, when owner and registered dietitian Sally Sprenger wanted to find healthcare for her father. From there, the business grew and has partnered with Supportive Homecare Options, which employs 1,300, Quality Healthcare Options, a registered nurse training organization and others.
They can even help with a move, thanks to partner firm Milwaukee Express Moving.
ANEW also has three assisted-living facilities in Milwaukee, with a completely bilingual staff at a location on the south side.
Ryshke said the business became successful due in part to its philosophy on providing home healthcare to those who couldn't typically afford it.
"We're really considered a social service agency," she said. "We truly believe in social service. We're not really geared to the rich, and we're really acclimated with the social service entities in Milwaukee, which are the Disability Services Division and the Milwaukee County Department of Aging."
Those who receive family care through Milwaukee County pay less for assisted-living care through ANEW. ANEW's monthly rent for a person with family care is $1,672, where most rates can range from $3,000 to $5,000 per month.
