Conference Overview

Virginia Association of School Librarians (VAASL) 2021 Annual Conference

"Library - Love, Literacy, Learning"

We have awesome authors and speakers slated for the 2021 VAASL Annual Conference. You are certain to go away with new ways to teach and interact with your students, as you promote the love of literacy, and of course, enhance learning for all.

This year's authors and speakers graciously agreed to adjust their schedules and pivoted from the Annual Conference 2020 to this year's in-person 2021 VAASL Annual Conference in Williamsburg.

Our keynote speaker for Thursday is Jaime Donally.  She will share with participants how to utilize augmented and virtual reality to impact learning.  Friday's keynote speaker will be Rodney Robinson, the 2019 National Teacher of the Year.  Rodney will share how the love experienced in a school library can have an impact on our students.

This year, we will have daily awards luncheons, which are included in your registration fee. Thursday's Awards Luncheon will feature author/illustrators Laura Murray and Mike Lowery.  They collaborated on The Gingerbread Man Loose in the School series.  They will share how their work can have an impact on literacy and the love of reading. The Friday Awards Luncheon will have Jeff Zenter, author of New York Times Notable Book The Serpent King, Goodbye Days, Rayne & Delilah's Midnite Matinee, and his latest, In The Wild Light. He has won the William C. Morris Award, the Amelia Elizabeth Walden Award, the International Literacy Association Award, and the Westchester Fiction Award. Jeff came to writing through music, starting his creative life as a guitarist, and eventually becoming a songwriter. He has released five albums and appeared on recordings with Iggy Pop, Nick Cave, Warren Ellis, Thurston Moore, Debbie Harry, Mark Lanegan, and Lydia Lunch, among others.

Note: The VAASL Board and Conference Planning Committee have worked hard to add even more value to your annual conference registration fee.  This year, all registrants will receive a ticket to each day's Award Luncheon, which feature guest authors and recognitions of VAASL awards given to your peers.

Don't miss out on this great professional development and networking conference with fellow school librarians and educators.  Register early to take advantage of the savings reflected in the Early Bird registration rates.
