MSOC: Sept. 10 Players of the Week

IRVING, Texas – Kentucky junior JJ Williams earned his second consecutive Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week title after leading the Wildcats to two wins. Old Dominion senior Ryan McLaughlin was named Defensive Player of the Week after pacing the Monarchs to a win over C-USA foe (RV) Charlotte. All C-USA weekly awards are presented by Top of the World Headwear.

C-USA Offensive Player of the Week – JJ Williams, Kentucky, Jr., Montgomery, Alabama
Williams totaled three goals this week against No. 7 Louisville and conference opponent UAB. The junior scored a first-half brace against the Cardinals to help the Wildcats secure a 3-0 victory. He also won the penalty kick that was converted by teammate Aimé Mabika. Williams scored Kentucky’s second goal in their conference and road opener against UAB. He now has a team-best 10 career goals.
 
C-USA Defensive Player of the Week – Ryan McLaughlin, Old Dominion, Sr., Ireland
McLaughlin anchored a Monarchs’ defense that held Charlotte, who previously averaged 19.5 shots per game, to just five. The senior also scored his first career goal in the 51st minute to switch the momentum in Old Dominion’s favor. The Monarchs knocked off (RV) Charlotte, 2-1, for their first loss of the season.
