Caitlyn Jenner is one of the 40-plus candidates who are seeking to replace Gov. Gavin Newsom in the Sept. 14 recall election.

The Republican candidate joined us via Zoom on Tuesday to answer a few questions.

Reporter Jim De La Vega asked Jenner about the COVID-19 vaccine.

"You've been vaccinated. Is that something you would encourage others to do?" said Jim.

Jenner says the vaccine has become very political and that's one of the reasons Gov. Newsom is being recalled - because of his handling of the pandemic.

"I believe in individual freedoms. I believe that we are a free people; we can do what we want," said Jenner. "I was vaccinated. My 95-year-old mother was vaccinated. I would encourage people if their health is good to look into getting vaccinated. I think it's a very good thing. But I don't want government telling you what to do. I don't want those mandates. This is a decision between you and your doctor."

Jenner also talked about immigration, the drought, and wildfires.

Jenner says she is currently polling in 2nd place behind Larry Elder but said, "I don't know if you've ever seen me race. I'm pretty good at these race things. I know how to win, even coming from second."

Jim De La Vega also interviewed Larry Elder and Assemblyman Kevin Kiley.
