The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) helps pay the winter heating bills of low-income and elderly people. This assistance is based on household income, household size, type of fuel and type of housing.
Benefits are paid directly to utilities on behalf of eligible households. The exception is households whose heating costs are included in rent.
The LIHEAP program begins Sept. 1, 2022 for all income-eligible households. Applications are taken on a first-come, first-served basis through May 31, 2023 or until funding is exhausted. There are no priority groups for this program year. Households in need are encouraged to apply.
