BACK TO SCHOOL, THE YL WAY

Four tips for tackling the new school year

A MESSAGE FROM MARY

Hello, My Friends,

July is a very busy month for those of us living in Utah. Our Young Living jousting troupe was invited to do a demonstration at the Days of ’47 Rodeo that took place at the Utah State Fair grounds. It was only a 16-minute show; but even in the 100°F hot sun, it went very well and was fun for all those who were there to watch. Then our jousters went walking through the crowds in their heavy armor to answer questions and invite people to our Draft Horse Show in September. However, most amazing to me was the tribute paid to Gary during the rodeo. Last year, Gary was invited to sit in the announcers’ box and talk about our horses, while Jason Goodman drove our six-up Percheron hitch as a new attraction for the rodeo, which was magnificent. Gary was the Idaho State champion in Saddle Bronc riding when he was in high school and had a great love for the cowboy skills demonstrated at rodeos. Gary really connected with the directors of the rodeo, and they were greatly saddened by Gary’s passing. They gave a very beautiful tribute while Jacob led Gary’s horse into the arena. Then when Jacob moved out, Felix Santana rode in on one of our dancing Friesian horses to show the amazing ability of this breed of horses. He finished with the horse walking on his hind legs, which caused a roaring applause from the crowd. They talked about Gary’s great love of horses and how he started the exciting modern-day essential oils movement. They love who we are and talked about Gary and Young Living throughout the entire rodeo. Everywhere we looked, we saw the words Young Living. The rodeo took place for five nights; and the last night when the prize money was given out, one of the riders who took first place in his event was asked how he felt, and he said, “I wouldn’t have made it if it hadn’t been for the Young Living products that helped me so much.” We were all surprised and amazed. I was asked to present the awards for one of the events with Utah’s Governor Herbert. He and Gary met a few years ago, and Gary drove the stagecoach with the governor sitting next to him during one of our big holiday parades. The governor expressed his sadness as well but gave me a big hug with his support. It was wonderful to visit with him. We had two big tents that were packed with people enjoying our NingXia products; and with such hot temperatures, we couldn’t fill the cups fast enough. The rodeo riders loved using Cool Azul and drank a lot of NingXia Red. The inquiries and new experiences people were having were very rewarding for all of us who spent long hours to make this event very successful for the rodeo and Young Living.

It’s time to cook the last s’more of the season and trade in popsicles for pencils, because backto-school time is here! Whether your children are headed to a community school or are gearing up to learn at home, we’ve got tips to help you and your little ones say goodbye to summer and hello to a bright, new school year. 1. Deep clean. We love spring cleaning, but your house gets a lot of use during the summer months. September is the perfect time to give your home a deep clean in preparation for the busy months ahead. Your children can help with the chores, or you can clean high-traffic spots while they’re at school. Thieves ® Household Cleaner will help you get your house sparkling clean and smelling great! Tip: Refresh musty carpets by adding 5 drops of Thieves essential oil blend to a cup of baking soda. Combine well and let the mixture sit overnight until the oil is absorbed; then sprinkle over carpets and vacuum thoroughly. 2. Create a study space. School can be stressful, so create an inspiring oasis where your little scholars can study in peace. Keep supplies like pencils and scrap paper organized and within easy reach. Consider hanging up pictures or quotes your children find inspiring. Letting them help personalize their study space can help them get excited for school! Tip: Diffuse an essential oil that helps create an environment ready for learning. We love GeneYus™, which was created to give young minds an aroma that inspires feelings of focus. 3. Practice your morning routine. Mornings are easier when you know what to expect. Practice your morning routine before the school year starts. From waking up to getting to the bus stop or settling in

at a desk at home, knowing how long your child needs to prepare for the day will help mornings run more smoothly. Tip: Make time for a healthful breakfast. Gary’s True Grit ® einkorn products, made from whole ancient grains, are a delicious and wholesome way to start the day together. 4. Take time for yourself. You’ve spent all summer keeping your little ones safe, happy, and engaged. Now it’s time to be as kind to yourself as you are to your children! Drop some Stress Away™ or another oil with a relaxing scent like Lavender into your diffuser, add your favorite Vitality ™ essential oil to a refreshing glass of water, and unwind. Tip: Pamper yourself with ART ® Creme Masque or ART® Beauty Masque as you relax. These luxurious masques will add to the spa-like experience and will give your skin a youthful appearance. We hope the new school year is full of learning and growth for you and your little ones. Enjoy the journey!

AMeetBRIGHT VISION FOR BEAUTY ESSENTIALS Sarah Bjorgaard, the new VP of Beauty Essentials

Sarah Bjorgaard has brought excitement, passion, and expertise into her new role as Young Living’s vice president of Beauty Essentials. She has 25 years of experience in the direct sales industry, as well as a strong background in leading high-performing teams. But it’s not just Sarah’s knowledge of business that makes her such a great fit for Young Living; Sarah’s roots in nature go deep. Sarah was raised on a tree farm and nursery, and she understands the essential connection between

wellness and nature that drives the mission of Young Living. “There is something so inspiring about standing in a field of newly sprouted plants,” she says. “It’s a symbol of new life and hope for the future. After standing in the greenhouse in Mona among 250,000 new lavender plants, I left feeling renewed and inspired to support Gary’s mission of getting oils into every home across the world.” Beauty Essentials is a new category for Young Living, encompassing member-favorite products such as Savvy Minerals®, skin care, and hair care, as well as our popular Beauty School events. As vice president of this talented team, Sarah believes one of her most important roles is to be a visionary. “Someone once told me that in order to be a great leader, you need to be able to paint the picture and help others see themselves in it,” she says. “If people can see themselves where you see them, the actions are easy. Your next role is to celebrate the wins!” Sarah is looking forward to a lot of wins for her team, including growing the brand through social media and getting essential plans in place, so Beauty Essentials can reach even higher levels of excellence in 2019.

EMPOWERING OTHERS WITH HOPE FOR JUSTICE AFRICA Ending modern slavery in Africa, thanks to your continued love and support

Continued from page 1 When she’s not at work, Sarah still finds time to connect with nature. She loves to garden and landscape, and she enjoys spending time with her family. Whether it’s a bike ride, a game of badminton, or a bonfire, she treasures the time they spend together.

“We have aligned ourselves with a partner who has the right answers.” —Lee Bowen, Young Living CFO The D. Gary Young, Young Living Foundation’s July service trip to Uganda was particularly special, as it was the team’s first time visiting its expanded partnership with Hope for Justice Africa. Each individual who helped us raise $1 million to end human trafficking at the 2018 International Grand Convention helped make this expanded fight against modern slavery possible! In addition to serving alongside our partners African Hearts, Sole Hope, and Healing Faith Uganda, Young Living members and Young Living’s CFO Lee Bowen and his wife, Tricia, visited with individuals who have been rescued, supported, and empowered by Hope for Justice Africa, exploring the impact that the organization is making in Uganda. One of the many ways that Hope for Justice is tackling the problem of human trafficking is mentorship and education. The volunteers met with a girls’ empowerment group, convening in a space where girls ages 12-19 gathered for class. Here, these young women learned the importance of consent and how to support one another and identify when someone may need help. Teachers also helped the girls select a trade they are passionate about. The volunteers then visited a man who was

rescued from the streets as a child by Hope for Justice and now supports himself making and selling shoes to those in need in the slums. His valuable trade is affording his siblings a proper education, his mother financial assistance, and his apprentice a way to support himself cobbling. His financial independence also helps make him and his family less susceptible to enticement by traffickers. Finally, the team joined a Hope for Justice women’s co-op meeting, which supports mothers as they start and grow their own businesses to create financial stability and a positive home environment that prevents family members from becoming susceptible to trafficking. One inspirational woman was empowered to pursue her dream of owning a purse-making business. She is now learning how to start and build a sustainable business, so she and her family can live their best lives. Every penny from every donation continues to empower those across the world. If you would like to get involved on the ground, we invite you to apply for our 2019 service trips today! Applications are open now through October 1 at YoungLivingFoundation. org/service-trips.

Here are some responses from last month’s question: “What YL products are you putting in your kids’ backpacks when they head back to school?”

ESSENTIAL OILS AND LITTLE ONES Important guidelines on using essential oils with children and babies

Essential oils can be a wonderful addition to caring for children and babies. The benefits of essential oils aren’t limited to adults. Essential oils can be wonderful for your whole family—even the youngest members. When it comes to your little ones, though, it’s especially important to use oils in a way that is safe for their sensitive systems. Luckily, you don’t need to dig through a pile of research on your own to find out how! We’ve conducted careful research to develop recommendations for using essential oils with your children, from the tops of their heads to their tiny toes. Before you administer oils to your children, consult a health care professional, especially if your baby or child is sick. General use: Children can be especially sensitive to some essential oils. We recommend

ESSENTIALLY YOURS We asked; you delivered!

caution when using the following essential oils—or blends containing them—with children and infants: Idaho Tansy, Hyssop, Sage, Clary Sage, Wintergreen, Eucalyptus, Oregano, and other strong oils. Ingestion: Because Young Living essential oils are highly concentrated, we do not recommend ingestion by infants. Diffusing: Diffusing is a wonderful way to add humidity to the air and surround your little ones with a relaxing aroma. When you diffuse oils next to cribs and play areas, add less oil than you usually would to avoid overwhelming sensitive little noses. Wearing essential oils on your own skin can also help your babies become familiar with the fragrance. Topical application: Children’s skin is very delicate, so make sure to dilute essential oils with a carrier oil, such as V-6™ Vegetable Oil Complex. We recommend diluting the oils more heavily than you would for your own use. When you are using a new essential oil, perform a spot test on your child’s arm or leg with heavily diluted oil. If no reaction occurs after several minutes, the oil is likely okay to use. See more in-depth guidelines for diluting essential oils for kids and babies on the Young Living Blog at bit.ly/ChildrensDilutionGuide.

YOUNG LIVING INDONESIA Region Update

Get to know September's product of the month!

When the sun rises and a new day emerges, a hardy breakfast can give you the energy to tackle your morning. After running errands, working hard at your office, or being with children all day, you can kick up your feet, diffuse some Lavender essential oil, and watch the sun set as you relax into bed. But what support is there for the midday slumps when you’re feeling a little run down but need to still get things done? Brain Power™ might be just the thing you need! Brain Power™ essential oil blend’s fresh aroma is a perfect pick-me-up when you need to concentrate. It’s a blend of essential oils high in sesquiterpenes— like Sandalwood, Blue Cypress, and Frankincense—that can promote a sense of clarity and a focused environment.

Here’s how to get the most from your Brain Power™ essential oil blend: • Power through your afternoon

by diffusing in your office, living room, or car while running errands. The aroma creates a focused and relaxed environment. Studying for a major test or focusing on a work presentation? Place a drop in your hands, rub them together, and breathe in the stimulating, relaxing aroma. Feeling run down and fatigued from knocking items off your to-do list? Rub a drop or two into the back of your neck to gain a sense of relaxation and focus that’ll keep you on track to finishing your afternoon strong!

The Indonesia market has been experiencing some exciting events since their first anniversary celebration this April. At the celebration, attendees enjoyed giveaways, guest speakers, workshops, and more, plus the launch of 47 new products, including Savvy Minerals by Young Living® products! In April and July, 122 Live Your Passion Rally (LYPR) member-hosts not only gathered over 4,800 participants, but to keep excitement high, they also gave away 693 grams of 24K gold to attendees! One LYPR host, Anita Hartono, and her team generously donated their earnings from their event to the D. Gary Young, Young Living Foundation. Members and staff have also been going green with efforts to recycle empty essential oil bottles. For every 20 empty bottles members dropped off at Will Call, they received one reusable tote bag. International Essential Oils Day came to life in Indonesia on July 11. In remembrance of Gary’s 69 years of living, members and employees shared their favorite oils with friends and family, as well as their Young Living pictures and stories on Instagram with the hashtag #thankyougaryid. Read about other exciting Young Living news happening around the world in our October edition.

Young Living products come from three different types of suppliers: corporate-owned farms, partner farms, and Seed to Seal-certified suppliers. While each supplier is different, each has one thing in common: an unyielding commitment to Seed to Seal. Whether a product comes from a corporate-owned farm or a Seed to Sealcertified supplier, you can be confident that it was produced with identical quality standards, backed by rigorous laboratory testing and signed quality agreements. So if these three kinds of suppliers offer identical quality, how are they different? Let’s take a look. Corporate-Owned Farms Corporate farms are fully owned by Young Living. It is at these farms that we first established our signature quality standards, and it is to these farms that our other suppliers look for the gold standard of essential oil quality, authenticity, and sustainability. Many of our corporate-owned farms are also home to research efforts, including everything from exploring new botanicals to building an in-depth quality testing data library. Partner Farms We also partner with growers around the world to maintain the authenticity of local cultures and communities. In these partnerships, our experts give growers customized, hands-on training in each aspect of Seed to Seal. We also support local growers through our Seed to Seal Grant Program, which offers funding to help expand operations, develop new programs, and more—all helping to ensure that local farmers are fully equipped to make their mark by producing the highest-quality essential oils in the world. Seed to Seal-Certified Suppliers Much in the same way we’ve spent decades developing deep relationships with our partner farms, we’ve also worked hard to develop strong relationships with our Seed to Seal-certified suppliers. Our extensive network of carefully vetted, regularly audited sources helps ensure a more stable, adaptable supply of member-favorite products as our global Young Living family grows. We’re proud to offer pure products from a diverse supply chain that is tirelessly committed to quality. Learn more at SeedtoSeal.com.
