The Mattress                                                  By Dick Duerksen

We have been storing a mattress in our garage, for months. It was given to us by a friend, asking that we pass it on to someone who needed it. We asked around, listened, asked, waited, and listened some more. There were needs for double mattresses and king-size mattresses, but no one needed a twin. So, it waited quietly in our garage, assuring that the passenger side of our car didn’t get any “garage dings.”

My wife, Brenda, has been leading a study group called “Reaching the World Next Door.” The group is searching for better ways to care for the refugees who live in our neighborhoods. We’ve learned that Oregon is home to thousands of refugees from the Congo, Rwanda, Syria, Iraq, and a score of other conflict-torn countries. Continue reading...

NPUC Executive Committee News

A Note from
Better Life Television

We are sorry to report that some Better Life viewers have recently lost our signal. This is due to the FCC selling T-Mobile some of Better Life’s channel frequencies. As a result we are being forced to change channel numbers in certain areas. It will take us a little time to figure out if new equipment is needed and how much money will have to be raised to get these stations back on the air. We appreciate your patience as we work through this new challenge, and invite your prayerful support. For more details and a list of possible work arounds, please visit BLBN.org.

Supporting Those Who Have Lost So Much

This past weekend, the little church in Sutherland Springs, Texas suffered unimaginable tragedy. Pamela Consuegra, associate director for Family Ministries at the NAD has a suggestion for showing care, sympathy, and solidarity... "It would be very special if the Baptist church in Texas... could be inundated with sympathy cards from their Adventist brothers and sisters. If every department, conference, and church could send one sympathy card... we could make a statement of solidarity with them."

If you'd like to do that, here is the address:
First Baptist Church
PO Box 115
Sutherland Springs, Texas 78161
