Chance Alberswerth

Chance Alberswerth is in his first year on the coaching staff at Missouri Southern. He will be responsible for coaching the defensive line for the Green and Gold.

Alberswerth comes to the Lions from the University of Nevada where he worked for a season with the Wolf Pack. This past year, he helped Nevada to a bowl appearance in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. The Wolf Pack finished 32nd nationally in sacks (23), while finishing third in the Mountain West in that category. The team limited opponents to 138.1 rushing yards per game, which ranked 36th nationally and fourth in the MWC and the defensive line produced a pair of All-Conference performers.

Alberswerth joined the Wolf Pack after one season at Division II Delta State as a defensive line coach and recruiting coordinator. In his lone season with the Statesmen in 2019, Delta State’s defense led the Gulf South Conference in total defense (309.2 ypg/29th NCAA), rush defense (122.0 ypg/36th NCAA) and sacks per game (2.70) while ranking second in red zone defense (.714/38th NCAA). The defense boasted five All-GSC performers, including defensive lineman Eric Sadler. Sadler ranked in a tie for fourth in the GSC with 6.5 sacks per game and was ninth with 11 tackles for loss.

Alberswerth also served as the defensive quality control coach at the University of Memphis after coaching the defensive line for two seasons at Upper Iowa University.

Before his stint at Upper Iowa, Alberswerth was the linebackers coach at Missouri Western State University in Kansas City, Mo. During his time with the Griffons, he coached a pair of All-MIAA linebackers and worked with the team in a variety of ways. He served as the alumni relations director and associate social media director as well.

Before his time with MWSU, Alberswerth spent the spring season at his alma mater, Avila University in Kansas City, Mo., working with the defensive line. Before heading back to Avila, Alberswerth spent two seasons as the defensive line coach at Hastings College in Hastings, Neb., where he coached six All-GPAC defensive linemen during his stint with the Broncos.

Chance graduated from Avila in May of 2013 with a bachelor's degree in business education and earned a master’s in teaching from Hastings in December of 2015.
