Description

The NOAA Fisheries Laboratory in Milford, CT is seeking a postdoctoral researcher to support a project on bivalve shellfish ecology, specifically related to feeding physiology and aquaculture.  Funding is for one year with the possibility of a second year pending available funds, and the target start is Spring 2019.  The goal of the overall project is to improve simulation of the nitrogen cycle within the Farm Aquaculture Resource Management model, to enable accurate projection of nitrogen removal at the farm scale. The postdoctoral researcher will be responsible for obtaining data necessary for modelers to perform updates and validation of the model for nitrogen removal. Primary duties will include 1) conducting field work to collect environmental and organismal data needed to improve and validate model simulations; 2) conducting field and laboratory measurements of feeding physiology of the eastern oyster, Crassostrea virginica; 3) coordinating a large team of collaborators, including environmental modelers, industry and municipal partners, resource managers, and other scientists; 4) dissemination of results through peer-reviewed publication, conference and/or workshop presentations, and targeted outreach products for a variety of stakeholder groups, including (but not limited to): the public, state shellfish managers, and state/federal nutrient management programs.

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in marine science or a related field.  Individuals with experience in bivalve shellfish ecology and physiology and interest in marine policy and applied research are particularly encouraged to apply. For more information or questions about the position, contact Julie Rose at julie.rose@noaa.gov.
