The Heinz Fellows Program offers an extraordinary, year-long opportunity for forward-thinking, social justice-oriented individuals who are interested in advancing equity in education. Fellows will work in urban schools in collaboration with teachers, staff and school leaders to support students in academic, social, and emotional growth while building knowledge and skills necessary to work in urban contexts.

  • Develop skills in five key competencies, including (1) urban context, (2) tutoring and teaching, (3) mentoring and social support, (4) participatory action research, and (5) arts and technology
  • Engage with local community organizations, school officials, parents and families
  • Participate in professional development opportunities such as educator forums, monthly brown bag discussions, professional conferences, and bi-annual lectures from urban education experts
  • Learn through weekly seminars led by Center for Urban Education (CUE) faculty and experts in the field
  • Engage in reflective, critical discussion with colleagues
  • Participate in a sustainable, action research based project
