CTLE Hours: 10 hours 40 minutes, total, for both training sessions*

This is a two-day training led by AccessMatters. Participants must commit to attending both training days.

Day 1: Cultivating Awareness of Racial Microaggressions

Time: 8:30 AM to 2:50 PM

In this training, participants will be introduced to ways in which implicit racial bias causes a negative impact on students of color. This training uses the framework of racial microaggressions, which are social exchanges that often seem harmless but actually have detrimental psychological and physiological effects on individuals, including students of color. Using lecture, media, and experiential activities, the facilitator will guide participants through effective recognition of racial microaggressions and the impact on students of color. After establishing foundational knowledge, the facilitators will guide participants through the self-reflective process of evaluating personal and professional barriers to reducing racial microaggressions in their health education classroom.

Day 2: Building Racially Inclusive Health Education Classrooms

Time: 8:30 AM to 2:50 PM

In this training, participants will build off their foundational knowledge about racial microaggressions in the health education classroom. After identifying tangible solutions for reducing racial microaggressions experienced by students of color, participants will be introduced to and will practice strategies for reducing microaggressions in their health education classroom.

*Due to the large amount of information that must be collected and maintained for record keeping, you will not receive your CTLE certificate of completion on the day of the training. Instead, you will soon be able to log in to our Office's central database (which is currently in production), enter your information, and generate your own CTLE eligible certificate. More information will be available in the coming weeks. Questions? Email wellnessPD@schools.nyc.gov.
