Dog-gone movie watching at one-of-a-kind Plano theater

Bring your pup to the movies? Say no more.

PLANO -- The website CinemaTour.com is an online database containing the locations and details of more than 57,000 movie theaters across the world. But the newest entry from Plano is the only one of its kind.

And it is an idea Eric Lankford created by combining two of his favorite things.

“They made me smile from ear-to-ear when they said we were the first dog-friendly theater in their database,” said Lankford.

K9 Cinemas had its first showing on Friday with nearly two dozen dogs along with their human companions watching the movie Up. Lankford is leasing a small performance theater and hopes to make the showings a regular occurrence.

“I cannot believe the amount of people rallying around us and supporting us.”

Twenty-five tickets will be sold for each showing and there are concession stands and even merchandise dog-lovers can purchase. Lankford said the theater is setup to allow dogs to exit quietly to an outdoor courtyard when nature calls and there were no behavioral issues to speak of for Friday’s opening.

The theater has just three rules for owners to follow: cleaning up after your pet, bringing valid vet papers on their first visit, and a two-dog limit per human.

Tickets for holiday showings of Home Alone on December 21 and Elf on December 26 can be bought on K9 Cinemas website.
