Statement from the Artist:
“Babel” deals with the failures of text, language and translation and how they relate to gender politics. The project is both research and practice that investigate how the patriarchal system has shaped language as an oppressive force over women which has kept them largely invisible. The research material includes stories from folklore, fairy tales, English and Farsi literature and spoken language specifically focused on female representation. Both text and image are reproduced using the scanner as a camera. I treat these images as documents and witnesses to erosion.
