Plano data center up for grabs near Bush Turnpike

A Plano data center is on the market with Cushman & Wakefield hunting a buyer.

Dallas-Fort Worth is one of the top data center markets in the country.

And the owners of a Plano project hope that their building will attract buyers hunting more room to house their bits and bytes.

Ascent data centers has hired Cushman & Wakefield to peddle its DAL1 data center at 1500 Plano Parkway near Bush Turnpike. The company would also consider a lease of the building.

St. Louis-based Ascent bought the 43,330-square-foot building in 2016. The data center was built on a property which previously housed a retail distribution center.

The building has 15-inch reinforced concrete walls, a reinforced concrete roof and blast doors to withstand wind and storm debris.

"We look forward to working with the local Cushman & Wakefield team to solve for users' data center needs that require physically robust and secure facilities in one of the fastest-growing tech markets in the country," Phil Horstmann, CEO of Ascent, said in a statement. "We provide tenants with the necessary delivery and operational flexibility to safe guard their data as well as our personalized, around-the-clock support to meet their technical, operational and financial objectives."

The Plano property was Ascent's first purchase in North Texas.

Now the firm hopes that another owner will be attracted to the data center.

"Data center users and investors have flocked to the Dallas region for a number of reasons," Rick Hughes, executive managing director with Cushman & Wakefield, said in a statement. "The recognition of the population explosion in Texas offers unique opportunities for data centers to be near the people they serve. Additionally, Dallas offers competitive, deregulated power and superior fiber connectivity, in the most business-friendly state in the Union."
