Small Business Saturday in Downtown Plano

Small Business Saturday began in 2010 as an effort by American Express to help small businesses rebound from the 2008 recession. It has since grown into an annual, nationwide holiday shopping tradition that encourages residents to come out and support the locally owned businesses in their community. It is always held the Saturday after Thanksgiving and the day after Black Friday.

Downtown Plano has an abundance of outstanding, locally owned boutiques, restaurants and coffee shops. The business owners in the Downtown Plano Arts District have put together an exciting event this year to encourage Plano residents to #shopsmall on Saturday, November 24. Participating businesses will offer limited-time discounts, special holiday products and even fun events, like speed dating at El Piropo.

“I love the meaning of ‘Shop Small.’ When a customer shops small, they are supporting families, keeping dollars in the community and helping strengthen the businesses in Downtown Plano,” said Meagan Wauters, owner of Lylas boutique and co-organizer of the Downtown Plano event.

Zane King, executive director for Historic Downtown Plano Association, hopes Plano residents will come out and see for themselves everything Downtown has to offer: “Small businesses are the heart of the American economy, and there is no better way to support your community and make your dollar go further than shopping with a local merchant.  Small Business Saturday is a great opportunity to find that special something the big retailers just don’t have. So come out and support your community and shop local.”

The list below includes participating businesses, who offer everything from chocolate and cake balls to jewelry and scooters. Follow the event on Facebook, as many of the merchants will not be revealing their deep discounts until the day before.
