The company selected Dallas based on its location and "right mix of talent."

A real estate tech company based in New York is opening an operations center in North Texas with room to grow.

Spruce, founded just a couple of years ago, is in real estate negotiations to open a new office in the Plano area that will span about 10,000 square feet. It's set to have 50 employees within 12 to 18 months, said Patrick Burns, co-founder and CEO. The office is being led by Lisa Robertson, who serves as executive vice president of real estate operations and was already located in the North Texas area.

“Our search was for somewhere that had the right mix of talent, both experienced and adaptable, which was both accessible from our HQ but in a time zone convenient for serving clients across the country,” Burns said in the statement, adding that this is the first office of significant size outside Spruce's headquarters. “We've been extremely impressed with the culture and quality of life in Dallas, and after spending time there with Lisa, we knew it was right for Spruce.”

Robertson joins the firm with about three decades of experience in the mortgage, title and real estate services industries. She will be responsible for scaling Spruce’s title and closing operations.

Spruce is fueling growth by offering mortgage lenders and real estate companies a technology service that speeds up and simplifies key steps in a transaction while improving user experiences. The company raised nearly $20 million in a funding round that was announced earlier this year.

“We're combining proprietary technology and a customer-centric approach,” Burns said. “This encompasses title insurance, escrow and closings, and our focus is on providing a better experience at a lower cost.”

Spruce's service is available nationwide, according to a statement. Already, the company is talking to candidates for the new office in Dallas, Burns said.

“We're putting an emphasis on hiring for culture and adaptability,” he said. “The current plan is to grow as quickly as possible without compromising on quality.”
