Crews from Plano, Frisco, McKinney, Prosper and Lewisville fire departments set out for California Monday morning as part of a statewide assistance effort to fight the wildfires on the west coast.

Last Thursday afternoon, the Woolsey Fire broke out near Simi Valley, and by Saturday evening, it had consumed an estimated 83,275 acres in Los Angeles and Ventura counties. There have been widespread evacuations through Malibu and neighboring canyon communities, as well as the San Fernando Valley neighborhood of West Hill. Local first responders are still on the ground floor fighting the blaze, but by late Saturday, North Texas departments were requested in the effort.
