Sources: Derrick Rose will need season-ending surgery for torn left meniscus
New York Knicks guard Derrick Rose has suffered another season-ending knee injury.
Rose suffered a torn meniscus in his left knee and will require surgery and a six-to-eight-week recovery period, league sources told The Vertical.
Rose scored 27 points in 33 minutes in a victory over Detroit on Monday, but missed Wednesday’s loss to Miami and sources say he then underwent an MRI that discovered the meniscus tear.
The Knicks and Rose’s camp are working to schedule the surgery in the near future, sources said.
Rose will become an unrestricted free agent in July and a third career knee surgery will be a detriment to his marketability. In what could be his only season in New York following a June trade from the Chicago Bulls, Rose had an uneven season that included a civil sexual assault trial that caused him to miss much of the preseason, an unexcused absence from a January game against New Orleans and finally the season-ending injury on Sunday.
Rose, 28, had an ACL tear in 2012 that forced him to miss the entire 2012-13 season and a torn meniscus in his right knee in the 2013-14 season.
Rose averaged 18 points and 4.4 assists in 64 games for the Knicks this season. In eight NBA seasons, including an MVP year in Chicago in 2010-11, Rose has averaged 19.5 points.
