A 39-year-old Longmont resident died after a fatal crash with a Western Disposal truck that happened around 11:45 a.m. Friday.

The Longmont resident was driving a Toyota pickup southbound on Harvard Street approaching Mountain View Avenue while the disposal truck was traveling westbound on Mountain View Avenue, according to a news release from Deputy Chief Jeff Satur.

The driver of the Toyota, whose name is not being released at this time, had a stop sign on Harvard Street. It appears he was trying to turn left when he was struck broadside by the disposal truck, Satur said.

He was taken to Longmont United Hospital with serious injuries and later died.

The driver of the Western Disposal truck was not injured in the crash, according to Satur.

The Longmont Police Department Traffic Unit is investigating the crash and has not yet issued any summonses. Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash, Satur said.

The area of Harvard Street and Mountain View Avenue has been shut down in both directions. Police expect to reopen the area by 6 p.m.

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to call Longmont police dispatch at 303-651-8501.
