STOCKWELL — Twenty-seven-year-old James Thomas Brady of Jamestown drove north on U.S. 52 and didn't noticed the D&D trash truck stopped in the right lane until it was too late.

Investigators marked about 30 yards of skid marks on the highway that hinted at the urgency felt by Brady and the strength of the impact he slammed on the brakes and skidded into the rear of the truck just north of Tippecanoe County Road 900 East about 2:35 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Office.

Paramedics rushed Brady to IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette, but he died, according to the sheriff's office.

One of the trash truck employees jumped onto the back of the truck as they prepared to move to the next stop, but he heard the skidding tires and jumped from the truck just before the car hit it, according to Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Office.

No one on the trash truck was injured.
