The Allegheny County Health Department has opened a new STD-HIV/AIDS clinic in Pittsburgh's Hill District to replace its Oakland clinic.

“The clinic in Oakland had been located in a building that was well past its useful life and was no longer worthy of our employees or its clients. We also had interest from several entities in whether we would be willing to sell the property,” County Executive Rich Fitzgerald said in a news release.

The county plans to sell the Oakland property to the University of Pittsburgh to be used for its new Innovation District.

The county is leasing the new clinic, owned by the Hill House Association, for about $120,000 per year, Health Department spokesman Ryan Scarpino said.

The department provides free and confidential HIV-STD testing at the walk-in clinic, the release said. No appointment or insurance is necessary, but patients should bring photo identification.

“Sexually transmitted diseases such as syphilis, chlamydia, gonorrhea and HIV are a major health issue in Allegheny County, and we continue to see that incidence rates for these STDs in our county exceed the state's incidence rates,” Dr. Karen Hacker, the health department director, said in the release.

The new clinic is located in Blakey Center at 1908 Wylie Ave. It is open from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on weekdays except Wednesday, when hours run from noon to 7:30 p.m.
