Fayette County officials have a new emergency notification system that they say will more effectively alert residents of disasters and emergencies.

After a review of several alerting systems, Fayette County Emergency Management adopted CodeRED, a mass notification service provide by the Ormond Beach, Fla.-based OnSolve LLC.

“We anticipate using the system to notify residents of fires, floods, hazardous materials and missing children notices,” said Michael Perry, Fayette County assistant IT manager.

The CodeRED system will serve as the backbone of the Fayette County emergency planning and communications outreach to both residents and staff. It sends telephone calls, text messages, emails and posts to social media channels to inform residents of the need to protect life and property.

“CodeRED's robust notification system will provide Fayette County officials with a reliable, easy-to-use interface to quickly deliver critical information to our citizens during emergencies,” Perry said, noting that CodeRED is used in communities across the country.

OnSolve LLC has provided Fayette County with an initial database of residential and business telephone numbers; however, all county residents should visit www.fcema.org/codered to enter their contact information (cellphone numbers, text and email addresses).

No one should automatically assume that they are in the emergency contact database, Perry said.
