Upstart Business Journal, a sister publication of the Philadelphia Business Journal, has released the inventors on its Upstart 100 Class of 2016 — and Yasmine Mustafa of Philadelphia made the list.

Over the next few weeks, Upstart will roll out its full list of the 100 most dynamic and creative people shaping business today.

Mustafa has been a rising star in the local tech scene for years. The founder of the Philadelphia chapter of Girl Develop It, Mustafa's commitment to empowering girls and women through tech is part of her company, Roar for Good. The Philly-based startup launched its first product last fall, a small pendant designed to look like jewelry that also alerts friends, family or those nearby the wearer of an emergency.

"Our biggest thing is we don’t use any scare tactics. It’s all about having women seize their freedom," the Temple University alum told the Philadelphia Business Journal last October.

The rest of the 21 inventors revealed Aug. 15 are a mix of well-known names in new economy circles — Fitbit's James Park, Siri creator Dag Kittlaus, SoFi chief Mike Cagney — and those who you'll be hearing a lot more about.

Over the next three weeks, on Mondays and Thursdays, Upstart will roll out more names of honorees spanning all of the categories that make up the Upstart 100: Creatives, Aug. 18; Reinventors, Aug. 22; Visionaries, Aug. 25; Backers, Aug. 29; and Masters, Sept. 1. And on Sept. 29, Upstart and the San Francisco Business Times will hold an event in San Francisco to toast the honorees and hear more about their stories.

To keep up with it all, follow the Upstart Business Journal at Upstart100.com or on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn with the hashtag #Upstart100.
