Smart Metering Entity Third Party Access Implementation Plan engagement has launched

October 12, 2017

In its role as Ontario’s Smart Metering Entity (SME), the IESO has launched a new engagement initiative to seek input on the development of an implementation plan that provides interested parties with access to the de-identified meter data available in the province’s Meter Data Management/Repository (MDM/R). An introductory webinar will be held on November 7 at 10:00 am.

Interested parties in this engagement initiative can expect to:

  • Learn more about the efforts undertaken to affirm the IESO’s strong security framework currently in place to support this initiative
  • Provide feedback on a draft Engagement Plan to ensure this initiative provides adequate access for input in an open and transparent manner
  • Provide input into the development of the Third Party Access Implementation Plan

This engagement initiative will be supported by the discussions underway with the IESO’s stakeholder-represented Data Strategy Advisory Council.

Providing third party access to the de-identified data supports Orders from the Ontario Energy Board to the SME to explore and leverage opportunities that can be realized from Ontario’s single repository of electricity consumption data in a manner that is compliant with privacy requirements and that ensures fair and ethical use of the data.

All interested parties are invited to participate in this engagement including, but not limited to, local distribution companies, communities, municipalities, academia and research organizations, natural gas industry, energy service providers as well as consumer groups and associations.

Register to participate in the November 7 webinar.
