Today’s Craft-A-Flower is the Cistus! And there is an expansion of Altenew’s Gradient Cardstock line too! Here’s a look at my first card I created with the Cistus. For this one I die cut all of the Cistus from watercolor cardstock and then colored the cardstock with Watercolor Brush Markers. I like the sketchy hand painted look this gives you. I use my stamping mat and just scribble the brush marker on and push it around with water then set each piece aside to dry, then adhered them together.

I cut a panel of Dark Gray cardstock to 4.25″ x 5.5″ and dry embossed it with one of my new favorite embossing folders -the Storybook Frame folder. This is such a great folder for surrounding a focal point.

I arranged my Cistus. flowers and leaves and then adhered them with foam squares of varying levels to add dimension. I also decided to slot in a few branches from the Berries and Branches die set for extra bulk in the arrangement. I had some left over from a previous. card that were watercolored so they worked perfectly.

I decided to add a few white paint splatters (acrylic) all over to tie the panel into that watercolor look. My drips were a little bigger than I’d like but I still like how it turned out.

I heat embossed my sentiment in Pure White embossing powder on Jet Black cardstock and mounted at the bottom of the panel on a strip of foam tape and adhered the entire panel to a white notecard. I also added a few gemstones to finish.

I couldn’t resist making a card with the new Gradient Cardstock too. This cardstock comes in packs of four different shades (like the ink sets) that fit perfectly into Altenew’s cute little Mini Blossom die cutting machine. Super quick and perfect for Craft-A-Flower sets to take all the guesswork out of selecting cardstock.

I die cut my Cistus flowers from New Purple cardstock and adhered them together. I also die cut the Linear Pathway Alphas from the Rose Petal set to spell XOXO (hugs and kisses!). I cut the flower centres and the Linear Pathway Outline Alphas from gold mirror cardstock to tie them together and mounted all of the pieces onto a panel of patterned paper from the Essential Rock Collection paper pack, and onto a white notecard. As an afterthought, I added a few more of the spare branches I had to better frame the sentiment.

  2. Love your storybook frame cistus card. Do you ever look at a card and a story just immediately jumps to mind? This is the first flowers of spring blooming in a garden with wrought iron fencing despite the last snow of the season coming down. It has a “nothing is going to stop me” feeling.

  44. I didn’t think I like paint splatters on cards until I saw your first card–wow! It just adds such a nice extra touch and lightens the card up even more. I’ll have to try my watercolor markers on a layered flower now, too. Lovely cards!
