Hi everyone! It’s been far too long since I broke out my metallic watercolors and what more perfect an opportunity than June’s Altenew’s Paint-A-Flower release! This month’s floral is the Clematis Josephine, and my post today is part of the release blog hop which starts over on the Altenew blog.

If you came here from Virginia’s blog you’re on the right track! Stay tuned for giveaway details as well as the next stop.

I created my card using black watercolor cardstock (the brand I used is by Legion), and trimmed down a panel to 4.25″ x 5.5″ . I then heat embossed the main PAF Clematis Josephine image using Antique Gold embossing powder, slightly offset on the edge of the panel. I also heat embossed the sentiment on a separate piece of Jet Black cardstock and trimmed it out (but set aside for now).

I used my Altenew Metallic Watercolors to loosely watercolor the image – the heat embossing resists the paint, and I was able to use more water as my cardstock is watercolor. You can use Jet Black cardstock too but be sure to use less water. I used a blend of colors in. the blue/purple floral, then pale red and pale pink metallics on the others, and a blend of greens on the leaves. I also added some pale gold in the stem and lots of splatters for good measure!

I also tore the bottom of the panel (approx 1/2″) and added some touches of pale gold along the tear. I saw this done recently on a card by Enna (@ritzyhag on Instagram) and had to try it – I love that effect, thanks Enna!

To finish my card, I adhered the watercolor panel to a cream note card, letting it peep out at the bottom below the tear – and created dimension by mounting it with foam tape. I then popped the sentiment over the top with more foam and added a few dark jewels to finish.
