New detours for work on Nixon Road roundabout, Stadium Boulevard

ANN ARBOR, MI - Road construction season is in full swing in Ann Arbor, and some new traffic detours are taking effect.

As of Monday, June 19, the intersection of Nixon, Green and Dhu Varren roads is closed to traffic for construction of a new roundabout.

Work is scheduled to last until Sept. 1.

Eastbound Dhu Varren and southbound Nixon traffic is being detoured to Pontiac Trail, Barton Drive and then to Plymouth Road.

Northbound Nixon and westbound Green traffic is being detoured to Plymouth Road, Barton Drive and then to Pontiac Trail.

Access for emergency vehicles along Nixon will be maintained through the construction zone, along with pedestrian and bicycle traffic.

The ongoing Stadium Boulevard reconstruction project also shifted into a new phase as of Saturday, June 17, with a new traffic-control plan.

The major element of this stage is to restrict South Main Street to one lane of traffic northbound at the Stadium intersection.

Portable message signs along the street now have revised messages about the detours.

Southbound Main traffic is being detoured along Pauline Boulevard to Seventh to Scio Church and back to South Main.

The project is expected to be completed on schedule with the streets opening to traffic prior to the first University of Michigan home football game on Sept. 9. Also, all lanes of South Main are expected to be open for the Ann Arbor Art Fair, which runs from July 20-23.

The right lane of southbound Stone School between Ticknor Court and Packard Road will be closed daily from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. for sidewalk installation. During this time, traffic will be merged into the adjacent travel lane and traffic will be maintained.

Access for emergency vehicles and to driveways will be maintained to the fullest extent possible, according to the city.
