Separate sections of Interstate 176, which is also known as the Morgantown Expressway, will be renamed to honor veterans of the Vietnam War, the Persian Gulf War and the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.

PennDOT has 60 days to put up signs designating the changes on I-176 under a bill amended by state Sen. Judy Schwank to include Berks County and signed into law Thursday by Gov. Tom Wolf.

I-176 runs between Route 422 and the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

“We must always remember what veterans have done for us, and this is one way we’ll preserve our gratitude,” Schwank, a Ruscombmanor Township Democrat, said in a news release Thursday. “This legislation was brought to life by local veterans who wanted a way to honor their brothers-and sisters-in-arms.”
