Event description

The chefs, volunteers and guests who make up our Signature Chefs Events community are coming together in new, innovative ways to suport moms and babies this year.

We are following state mandated guidelines in response to COVID-19 and will not have an in-person event this year. So, we are preparing an exciting, new Virtual Gala for your 2020 March of Dimes Signature Chefs Auction experience!

We need your help now more than ever. Your support funds:

  • COVID-19 interventions and support for moms and babies
  • Programs that promote health equity for moms and babies and directly combat racial disparities in maternal and child health
  • Free virtual NICU support program for families
  • Virtual prenatal programs for moms-to-be
  • Educational programs, including live Facebook panel discussions, to get info into the hands of moms and families
  • Necessary supplies for expectant mothers including blood pressure cuffs and masks and so much more!

Support the mission

Every year, 15 million babies are born prematurely worldwide, and 1 million will die before their first birthday. Your gift helps the March of Dimes fund research, education, advocacy and programs that help more moms have full-term pregnancies and healthy babies.

Ambassador Family: The Young's

We are thrilled to have the Young Family as our 2023 Ambassador Family! At 26 weeks and 4 days, Jen gave birth to her and Seth's twin sons, Derek and Blake. One was born weighing 1lb 10 ouces and the other was only 15 ounces. They were both so small that they were born within the same second.  After being born, they both spent time in the NICU at Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital fighting for their lives. Now, they are 7 year olds and are thriving!

CULINARY EXCELLENCE

Signature Chefs events feature local culinary talent who create a selection of fine cuisine for an exclusive audience. Our chefs are artists, innovators and philanthropists, and we look forward to sharing their talents at the event.

Emcee: Kristi Capel, Co-anchor Fox 8 News

Kristi grew up in Northern Kentucky, graduating from Heritage Academy; but, she does have some roots here in Cleveland. Her father grew up in Bedford and graduated from Bedford High School. Kristi’s grandparents owned a store in Bedford called, ‘Capel’s Country Corner,’ which some of you may remember.

While in college, she had a great opportunity to intern in Cincinnati, Ohio, at WCPO. In her senior year, she landed a second internship at KSPR News in Springfield, Missouri, where she began her first job as a reporter. After a few short months of covering fires, accidents, and local events, they were in need of a weekend weather anchor, so she jumped in the driver’s seat and began her weather career. From there, she continued in Northeast and Central PA as the morning and midday Meteorologist.

Emcee: Wayne Dawson, Co-anchor Fox 8 News

Wayne is co-anchor of Fox 8 News in the Morning, Cleveland’s Number 1 morning show, seen weekdays from 4am to 10am.
Before teaming up with the morning crew, Wayne served as co-anchor of the weekend editions of FOX 8 News – rated Number 1 for five consecutive years with Wayne behind the desk.
For two years prior to joining WJW in the late –‘70s, Wayne was an anchor/reporter at WNIR Radio in Kent, Ohio. The 1979 graduate of Kent State University holds a bachelor of arts degree in journalism. An eleven time Emmy winner, Wayne is a member of the NAACP, the National Association of Black Journalists and the Phi Beta Sigma fraternity. He is also a member of the Broadcasters Hall of Fame. In 2014 Wayne was inducted into the NATAS Silver Circle and also received the Chuck Heaton Award for the Cleveland Press Club. He was also awarded the William Taylor Alumni award from the Journalism and Mass Communications School of Kent State University.
Wayne was also twice named one of the Jaycees
“Outstanding Young Men of America.” Beyond that, the Professional Women’s Business Association selected Wayne as “Outstanding TV News Reporter” and Delta Sigma Theta named him “Man of the Year.” Wayne Dawson is also an ordained minister.
