YMCA of Central Texas in Georgetown Receives $1 Million Donation from Sport Clips Haircuts Founder

GEORGETOWN, Texas (Mar. 22, 2023)

After years of providing youth services from a storefront operation on Williams Drive, the YMCA of Central Texas fundraising efforts have been bolstered by a $1 million donation that will propel the Founders Group endeavors to build a full-facility YMCA on the west side of Georgetown. The donation from Gordan Logan, founder and chairman of Sport Clips Haircuts will transform the YMCA in Georgetown.

Sport Clips Haircuts Donates Another $1.5M for Help A Hero Veterans’ Scholarships

VFW-administered program awards record number of scholarships

HOUSTON, TEXAS (Jan. 17, 2023)

Sport Clips Haircuts held an event at VFW Post 8790 today to offer free haircuts to veterans and present a check to the VFW Foundation for $1.5M toward veterans’ scholarships. This marks the sixth year in a row that Sport Clips has donated at least $1M to the Sport Clips VFW Help A Hero Scholarship program. Administered by the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) to provide scholarships for service members and veterans, the program has grown to become the largest of its kind. Through the program, VFW awarded 196 scholarships totaling $900,000 for the current 2023 spring semester today, bringing the total scholarships awarded to 2,600.

Sport Clips clients, team members, and franchisees will work to raise money via text and in stores over the next five weeks, and participating Sport Clips stores will donate $2 to the program from every hair care service provided on Veterans Day, November 11. Many participating Sport Clips locations will also offer free Veterans Day haircuts for those with military I.D.

Operation September Freedom is attempting to locate and honor as many World War II veterans as possible with Dream Flights during a national tour beginning August 1 – September 30, 2021. The flights are piloted by professional, volunteer pilots and are free to participants.

Today Sport Clips Haircuts donated $1.25 million to the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. Foundation to support active-duty U.S. service members’ and veterans’ scholarships through the Help A Hero program. This year's fundraising target was shattered when Sport Clips’ clients and product partner donations exceeded the original $1 million goal, and Sport Clips made its own Veterans Day contributions of $1 per haircut service. Help A Hero began as an initiative between Sport Clips and the VFW to provide phone calls home for deployed and hospitalized service members and veterans. The initiative then transitioned in 2013 to the VFW’s “Sport Clips Help A Hero Scholarship” program. To date, more than 900 VFW-administered scholarships have been awarded to qualified, active-duty military and veterans who wish to pursue college degrees and vocational certifications.
