Local author on 'Selected Shorts'

"I Am the Bear," a short story by Wilmington author Wendy Brenner, is scheduled to air Sunday on "Selected Shorts," the long-running Public Radio International series. Local public radio station WHQR is scheduled to broadcast the episode at 8 p.m. on its 91.3 signal.

Brenner, an associate professor of creative writing at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, is the author of "Large Animals in Everyday Life" and "Phone Calls from the Dead." She is a contributing editor for The Oxford American, and her work has appeared in Our State and other periodicals.

Actress Kate Walsh ("Grey's Anatomy," "13 Reasons Why") read "I Am the Bear" at an Aug. 30 taping at Symphony Space in the Peter Sharp Theater on Broadway in New York.
