US Blind Chess Association

I recently found the United States Blind Chess Association that is all about getting blind/visually impaired persons to play chess at all levels.

They have an active email list through Freelists.org and a web site. The web site is being updated currently so check back often.

Chess Baron, chessboards for the blind

I've recently gotten back into playing chess. I decided to get a new board. Stay clear of the Future Aids, Braille Super Store, and their supposed tournament quality wooden chess set. It is crap.

If you wanr a truly elegant wooden chess set that has the standard Staunton design pieces, The Chess Baron has a fantastic board! It is the 10-inch chess set. Their sets are perfect for tournament or casual play. They have lots of choices, and I will put the link to their main site as well as the link to the 10-inch board. At the time of this writing, August 2022, the 10-inch board is on sale for $69.95.

The 10-inch set comes from their store in England and takes about 10-days via free matter for the blind. Mine was shipped August 22nd, and arrived at my house in Oregon in the U.S. on August 29th.

You can read all about them and their various sets for sighted and blind players at their main page.

They have two sets for the blind, 10-inch and 13-inch. The direct link to the 10-inch board is:

If you want to check out the larger, 13-inch, board, the link is:

Jim Kitchen's Games

I had downloaded the install package in 2018 and have played many of the games under Windows 10 and now Windows 11. I don't know if this is the complete 37 game package or just the non-R rated games, but for those having trouble running them under Windows 10-11, give this installer package a try. It has been scanned with Windows Defender and came up clean.

Audio Games Archive

If you like to play games, the Audio Games archive has a huge collection of games you may not be able to find elsewhere.
They have all of Jim Kitchen's games available to download as one 37 game package, or you can download each individual game. Jim Kitchen was a friend, so I mention his games in particular, but there are tons of other games on the archives site. Jim passed away on August 2nd, 2014, and is greatly missed. He was a blind programmer who had done a lot of fun games for blind computer users. He had written them both in MS-DOS and Windows and he offered them free of charge.
