WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - UNCW's chancellor is on the mend after having heart surgery.

Three months ago, Zito Sartarelli had bypass surgery that forced him to take a leave of absence.

During an interview in the WECT studio on Thursday, Sartarelli said he's getting back to full health and has gotten back down to a
similar weight he was decades ago.

"I feel real good," Sartarelli said. "I'm regaining my strength and I'm sleeping very well. When I walk or do exercise, I do really
good and I've lost some weight, about 15 pounds or so. I'm back to the weight I had about 35 years ago."

Sartarelli also discussed campus safety and what UNCW can do help keep students and faculty secure.

"I think what we're likely to do more is more policing for sure," he said. "We have increased that significantly and improved
lighting on campus. ... We have to have a presence, in a nice way, so that people feel protected.

"Also, if you see something, report it immediately. Report to police. Report to (human resources). Pick up the phone and call."
