BROOKLINE, Mass. — A 10th-inning squeeze play helped UNCW's baseball team edge Northeastern on Friday, and gave Seahawks head coach Mark Scalf his 900th career victory.

UNCW beat the league-leading Huskies 7-6 in Game 1 of a doubleheader before losing 7-4 in Game 2. The series finale is scheduled for Sunday at 1 p.m. due to the forecast of inclement weather in the Boston area on Saturday.

Scalf credited players and fans for getting him to the 900-victory milestone.

"It just means I have been here a long time, and been able to coach a lot of good players," Scalf said. "I appreciate the efforts the guys have put in over the years, and this group as well. I appreciate the contributions from people that come to games and supported our program."

In the 10th inning of Game 1 with the score tied 6-6, UNCW's Mason Berne led off with a single and pinch runner Levi Gesell moved to second on a passed ball.

After a Greg Jones walk, both baserunners advanced on a Kep Brown sacrifice bunt. Cole Weiss then laid down a bunt that brought Gesell home to win it for the Seahawks (30-19, 12-8 Colonial Athletic Association).

Clark Cota notched his league-best 12th save of the season, preserving the win for Austin Warren (7-0).

Northeastern (31-16, 15-5) scored four runs in the second inning to take control of Game 2, sending eight batters to the plate in the frame. Jake Farrell's bases-loaded triple was the big blow in the second, part of Farrell's five-RBI game that included a home run.
