UNCW names new cross country and track and field coach

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) - UNCW has named Austin Davis its new cross country and track and field coach.

Davis, 29, was an All-American triple jumper at North Carolina before joining the coaching ranks.

The Durham native has coached at Winston-Salem State, Davidson, and Western Carolina.

"We're delighted to welcome Austin to the Seahawk family," UNCW Athletic Director Jimmy Bass said in a news release. "Coach Davis is one of the top young coaches in America, and we're confident he will do an outstanding job with our program."

"I'm humbled and excited to have the opportunity to be the head coach at UNCW," said Davis.

Davis earned his bachelor of science degree in exercise and sports science-sports administration with a minor in coaching at North Carolina in 2012.
