WITN's Teacher of the Week for May 16 is Jennifer Rice of Fred A. Anderson Elementary in Pamlico County.

Rice currently teaches third grade at Fred A. Anderson Elementary in Bayboro. This year, she had the opportunity to loop with her second grade class from last year. This loop included a transition from Pamlico Primary to Fred Anderson. Before calling Pamlico County Schools home, she taught in Onslow County for several years.

Rice attended the University of North Carolina Wilmington to earn my Elementary Education degree. In November of 2014, she became a National Board Certified Teacher.

The person who nominated Rice wrote: “She continues to be an amazing teacher that gives each and every student exactly what they need. I have been in the business for many years, and I am not sure I have seen the care and compassion that she has for these students that so desperately need her. I personally know of students that did not like school and had much difficulty in school until they came to her in 2nd grade last year. She is the exact model of what a teacher of the week, month and year should look like.”

Congratulations Patricia Griffin!

Every week during the school year WITN will recognize a Teacher of the Week on WITN News at Sunrise. The winner receives a plaque and $100 Walmart gift card.
