We are a group of social scientists who study questions related to the behavior of groups and collectives, examined especially through the lens of affective processes. Much of our research is focused on trying to understand and predict what makes people emotional, especially in social contexts. We are also interested in what measures can be taken to change emotions when they are unhealthy or unhelpful. We pay specific attention to the role that technology can play in driving these processes. Our work often tries to integrate theories from psychology, complex systems, cognitive science, and philosophy, and our methods are a mix of experimental work, big data analysis, computational modeling and machine learning.
