Divorced and jobless at forty-something, Whitney never thought she’d be starting over. But here she is. Single and (not so) ready to mingle - with anyone except him.

Luca leads a charmed life. He's got the perfect job, the support of a big Italian family, and a bevy of women eager to grant his mother’s wish for grandchildren… except the woman he really wants.

Bethany Lopez is one of those authors I stumbled over by chance and have stalked and added to my TBR mountain. Her books are the best blend of funny, sweet, hot, and entertaining. So, when I saw the blurb for this series I was jumping up and down for the chance to read it.

The first introduction to Whitney was awesome and I adored all of the ladies of the Jilted Wives Club. Which makes me so excited for the next books in the series. And the secondary characters were just as awesome, I'm really hoping there's a book or two there as well.

But back to Whitney, I absolutely could relate to her, apart from the divorce. She was at a weird crossroads in her life but she was so strong and self-assured and I respected the hell out of her. When I first met Luca, I was a little apprehensive. He seemed a little cocky and I wasn't sure if he was what Whitney needed.

Luca, however, knew exactly what he wanted and he went all out to get it. And he really was the perfect gentleman, when he wasn’t tearing panties or pinning Whitney to walls or dragging her into supply closets 😉. His family was beautiful and I loved seeing him interact with them. Even better was seeing him step up for Whitney and get to know her kids.

I am glad Summer is up next and I can't wait to read her story. And get a load more of all three ladies.

This well-written, fast paced read was charming and sexy and sometimes felt so real. It was lots of fun, made me smile, and gave me plenty of tingles.

Whitney goes to a support group for divorced women and ends up walking out and meeting two women who are in the same situation as her: dumped & divorced & ready to move on. They quickly bond and form a strong friendship. This trio of women dubbed themselves the Jilted Wives Club, aptly named. They were hilarious together and they made me want to be their friends.

Luca spots Whitney while she’s out with the girls. He’s mesmerized with her, so he finds the courage to talk to her. Luca is years younger, so she politely turns him down when he asks her to have a drink with him. But lordy, what she wouldn’t give to have a chance with someone like him.

But, lucky for him, he gets an opportunity to try to change her mind. They meet again...when she gets hired where he works. I loved them together and seeing Whitney finally give in and take a chance with him made my little cougar heart happy.

He was younger, yes, but he was perfect boyfriend material. Sexy, romantic, thoughtful and understanding. Watching him accept the age difference, along with her two teenage children, was heartwarming and made him even swoonier. And his family? Could they be any more awesome? A big Italian family who loves to get together for Sunday dinners. I felt like I knew them, I wanted to be a part of the Russo family.

This author always makes me feel everything in her stories, and I felt all of the emotions with this story. From scorching elevator kisses to fun family dinners to hot AF wall sex, this story satisfied me in every way possible. It was a perfect blend of humor, steam, and real life situations.

Margo & Summer were amazing characters as well. I’m happy to know they will be getting their own stories.

Starter Wife (The Jilted Wives Club, Book 1) by Bethany Lopez. I thought story plot and characters were good. It is entertaining. The author does a good job keeping you vested in the story and outcomes. This book is filled with drama, personal conflicts, and heated chemistry between Whitney and Luca. Sweet read.
No real huge angst.
Breadcrumbs dropped for future books in series.
Heroine was married for 20 years before her husband cheated and they divorced.
She has 2 older teenagers.
He is younger.
Pretty insta, esp on his part.
No intimate scenes other than the Hero and heroine.
HEA.

Loved This One . . .

This story will pull the reader in right from the start! The Jilted Wives Club is a group of smart, supportive, and delightful women who are there for each other. It isn’t easy to start over after such a usually shocking break-up. You have to put your heart out there, and it can be a scary experience. When Luca sees Whitney, he is attracted to her, but she’s not ready to get back in the game yet.

When they get another chance and meet again, will Luca be able to help her let go of her fears and insecurities? Can he convince her a HEA with him will be worth the risk?

The characters are well-written and their stories will resonate with many readers. But it’s always so nice to find that there is someone else out there who values you for the person you are. And age should never be an impediment to love. If two hearts resonate together, it was meant to be.

This was a cute, fast, low angst book about a woman in her 40's who falls in love with a younger man after her husband cheats and leaves her for a much, much younger woman.

I do wish that the story had started with her getting over that heartbreak or channeled some angst so that when she met Luca I could have cheered more.

I liked Whitney and Luca together but there was definitely a lot of telling instead of showing when it came to their relationship and I just wanted to see more tension between them instead of the insta lust and straight to very chaste dating. Their chemistry was very PG as was the sex.

I enjoyed the friendships Whitney formed with the other jilted wives and I'm open to reading their stories when they are available.

Younger man

Actually I'm not a fan of the younger man story, but this was surprisingly good. I didn't get weirded out and the relationship development was presented in a way I could accept and understand. A very enjoyable storyline and look forward to the next in the series.

If I could give this book a million stars I would, it's that good, so for now 5 jilted wives stars for this one!

Whitney is heading back out into the work force, after being divorced, something she never dreamed of being. While out at a meeting for divorced women, she can't stand being there so she sneaks out where she meets Summer and Margo, basically in the same boat. They forge a friendship and head out to a bar where she meets Luca, he's younger than her, but she thinks he's very attractive, but Whitney isn't ready for anything like a new relationship.
Luca can't believe how beautiful Whitney is and he's immediately taken with her, but she's not ready.

What happens when these two meet again? Sparks fly! But can Luca help her get over her fears of being hurt again?

I give huge props to Bethany, this book was so good I read it in one day, and I'm patiently waiting for the next book in this series! The main characters were amazing, and I loved the other characters in the story as well! Grab this one asap!

This started out well with a really strong voice (I'm a sucker for a good voice), but then it went downhill when I hit the second chapter and realized it's written in alternating first person. I hate having to redefine "I" every time the pov changes. The author also italicizes passages randomly for no discernible reason. And frankly, I get bored when the attraction between the main characters of a romance is all about physical features, which is how this story seemed to be going even at 32% in, so when I realized the author doesn't know the rules for pronouns, that was my tipping point.

DNF at 32%

The premise sounds good. The execution... not so much.

Everyone sounds the same - male and female. Clichés galore and terrible dialogue.

The only time the characters seem real is when the members of the Jilted Wives Club - Whitney, Margo and Summer - are together.

Fun light read.

This was a fun little light read with a few sexy moments throwing in. I picked it up because I was drawn to the premise and I love older woman younger man stories. I liked Lucas character and his pursuing of her. enjoyed it overall and it had a good message about communication and therapy and moving forward. I think you're on the 85% a lot of things just happen really quickly. One of them being the closure talk with her ex.
This this next part is my own. it's realistic that many good people get married and then drift apart because they're too consumed with jobs and kids instead of keeping their relationship alive, and yes sometimes they find a good partner afterwards, the truth is that couples who work to rebuild that marriage a happier and stronger relationship. I'm not including the cheating aspect in the previous comment. I felt like in this book because they've grown apart and one of them more than the other had envisioned a different life with a fun person and now they've both moved on makes that okay. And then the last of the book was just sunshine and roses. I'm glad there was a bonus Epilogue with her and Luca. I might pick up this author's work just because I did like her other characters and when I'm wanting a short light read that I'm okay skipping through.

This is such a sweet story and I truly enjoyed it!
I adore the three women that make up the Jilted Wives Club..they are awesome, supportive and honest.
This is Whitney’s story..a woman who thought she had it all, a husband and kids, being a stay at home mom..and now she is divorced and lonely and she doesn't trust that easily anymore.
It's so good to see her confidence coming back thanks to these supportive women and thanks to Luca, a younger man who set his sights on her and knows exactly what she is worth.
I love the Italian family ( I am Italian so I might be biased lol)
Can't wait for Summer's book!

This was such a fun book to read! Whitney meets two brand new friends, Summer and Margo, and form the Jilted Wives Club. Luca sees Whitney and is instantly attracted to her, but she is wary. Luca eventually wins her over, and they start dating. I though Luca was really sweet and such a great guy, and Whitney is amazing. The characters are realistic and just so adorable together. And I really love Whitney's friends as their banter and comments make me smile. I can't wait to read the next book in this series!

Starter Wife by B. Lopez is the first book in the new Jilted Wives Club Series.
Lets just say, this is another winner for me. I started reading and it was like coming home after a long day to snuggle up on the couch and relax. This book was that good.
Whitney is a divorced mom of two teens who's ready to start over. New job, new relationship - maybe, new friends.
Luca is a successful young business man, a good guy, the perfect bookboyfriend, a dreamguy.
Both have some hangups, but they never give up. A heartwarming, fantastic read. The story gave me all the feels. I fell in insta-love with storyline and characters. Just perfect for a weekend on the couch.

I seriously have enjoyed every book I have read of Ms. Lopez’s and this one is no different! It’s captivating right from the beginning. The characters are well written and the are smart, funny and definitely out spoken. Once I started reading I just couldn’t put it down. The ladies take you through their life crisis and you feel for each one! I can not wait for book two if it’s anything like book one it’s a must read!! Loved it

Whitney and Luca really came to life on the pages. Women who are dumped by their husband’s for a younger woman and abandon their children deserve a special place in HELL. Cheating is bad enough but to not even be truthful and stay in a marriage and deceive their spouse is unforgivable!! Whitney so deserved a younger, hotter man to regain her confidence and move on with her live. Can’t wait for Summer’s story 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🥰

Time to start a new series, a new start for the author, for us (readers), and the characters. Whitney was the wife of one man for 25 years, and now she starts anew, as he cheated on her! Now she's alone with her two children, who are teens, as he had left her for a new woman and decide to start on his own.
Whitney was supposed to go for some kind of therapy, but then she decided it was not for her... so she left. I always appreciate when a character follows what they feel inside of them! After that she met two women that are also trying to find their way in this new position in life - the three of them started Jilted Wives Club and it was the best decision they could make! A support group in the very real case! Loved it!
One day accidentally she met Luca, a younger man that showed interest in her, but she started to feel insecure, so she decided to take a step back. Yet fate decided differently! She started a new job and he was there and he was her superior! Ugh... could it get worse? He was still interested in her!
Luca was a great character! I had not expected to like him so much! I need a man like that in my real life! Can I get him? Whitney was at the beginning a sad character but then she evolved into something else and I loved it!

Well guys I’m sad to say the cover and blurb did not live up to my expectations. I picked it because the blurb sounded great and the cover that came after was awesome. I envisioned myself reading and having to hold the laughter in to keep from waking my husband. No such thing happened. What went wrong?

What did go right was the story. It was a cute (meet cute even) story about a recent divorcee and a younger man. The Jilted Wives Club started as three divorcee’s who needed help getting back into the world and the support of others to prop them up when they were too tired or reserved on their own. Although the three didn’t know each other from “eve” they instantly formed a bond of friendship and by the end love, for one another. So the plot and the story were great, so what was still wrong?

The characters were fun and genuine, but awfully lacking in sparkle. I’m not sure how to say it, but although they were accurate, developed, and genuine there was something lacking for me. I’m not sure if the comedy wasn’t over the top enough, or the personalities weren’t sparkly enough but somehow the book just didn’t do it for me. I wasn’t “wowed”…and that is what was wrong for me. So I’m giving this a 3.5 of 5 because perhaps it was me and you may find the book just the bestest.

All reviews posted at Tales of Love, Life, and Murder

This has a fun premise but the story is all narration, no POV from the characters so I just couldn’t connect to them. The circumstances are pretty over-the-top as well: she loses all her friends and family after divorcing her cheating husband of 20 years, which is weird because who everyone cut her out even though he cheated? Seems unlikely. And she didn’t forge a single meaningful relationship with a friend or family member in two decades? Yet she’s so approachable and loveable that she becomes instant BFFs with two strangers half her age and a man more than a decade younger falls head over heels for her at first sight. Plus, she dropped her career to stay at home with the kids more than a decade ago, but when she goes back into the workforce, she instantly gets a fantastic job and a promotion before she even starts. I can suspend disbelief for awesome characters and a fun story but this has neither.

This is the first book in a new series, The Jilted Wives Club, by Bethany Lopez. The starter wives will be about a group of ex-wives who started out in a support group but soon ran from the group and formed their own group, The Jilted Wives Club whuch consisted of Whitney, Margo and Summer. The first book is about Whitney. Her husband left her for a very young girl and now she is single and raising 2 children. When she meets up with her fellow Jilted Wives she finds a different kinf of life. She goes to a singles meet and greet night to support her friend Summer and runs into Luca. They really hit it off only to find out he is her new younger boss. They have to learn how to navigate her emotional baggage and his huge family. So what is next for Whitney and Luca, and even the other members of the Jilted Wives Club. You will love this new series it's a great combination of humor, heart and hot men.

Suddenly, I am craving a Lemon Drop Martini by the pool...... Your Next Beach Read......

STARTER WIFE is contemporary romance mojo. After searching for something light and airy, the Starter Wife was just what I need.
The plot: 3 divorce women meet and realize they do not need a support group – only each other
Meet Whitney!
It is a quick read. I read it in a day and now I am addicted to their club. With short chapters, the storyline flows perfectly between Whitney and Luca’s POV. And Luca’s mom – FRANNY is totally a scene stealer!!
Whitney and Luca’s new relationship is both sexy and fiery. All the leading ladies are older and sexy. That is another win for me!!!!
I enjoyed all three characters: Whitney, Summer and Margo. Yeah, the story is cliché and predictable but beautifully written. It has great dialogue. And that is a requirement for me.
All three women are strong woman who I can totally relate to because of my own life.

Why should you read it? Its good ole romance you can cuddle with by the pool with great characters.
What is next? Meet Summer in Trophy Wife. She is just what her name suggests, and I am here for it.

description

Whitney Spaulding is a recently divorced woman who is trying to start over. She ended up in a support group for divorced women but found it too stifling. Instead, she bumps into two other women in the same situation as her - trying to move on and finding their "one" or the "one-right-now." Whitney and her friends later form the Jilted Wives Club and support each other as this series starts.

Luca Russo is a young man who caught sight of Whitney as a bar as he was with co-workers and approached her to introduce himself. Whitney shot him down. The scene was cute since it did not feel like a "no" but more as a "not now," so I believed that Luca knew deep down that he would see her again.

Starter Wife is not my first time reading this author's works. I love this author's books - random in genre, topics, and characters. The book is easy to read and relatable to second chance genre readers. The POV is from Whitney and Luca's. The two main characters balanced each other well, but Whitneys and Luca's friends and family provided stability for these main characters to fall and support them as they try their best to sort out their relationship.

Luca's been with women, but nothing serious came about from them. No one good enough to be brought to meet his parents until Whitney came into his life - complicating it but in a fun and new way. He saw something in Whitney that was different from the rest of the women he knows.

I love Whitney a lot. She is a brave character, willing (or unconsciously) to leap with Luca when his persistence paid off. She looks composed and "put-together" outside, but there was so much brewing inside her. There were many unanswered questions on what happened to her failed marriage, and it was until the very end when things imploded when "giant leaps" were happening between her and Luca that she had to face truths and confessions that she tried her best to avoid.

Bottom line, I love rational yet sometimes flawed characters in Starter Wife. The author demonstrated the growth and maturity of two unlikely people that would become a couple successfully. This book is so easy to love, and I indeed fell for it "hook-line-and-sinker" to want to continue with the series. Readers will appreciate the easy flow of the story, including the conflict that will leave readers in a happy state of mind in the end.

Starting over can have complications and he is one of the good kind

Starter Wife is the first book in The Jilted Wives Club series and sets up this three book series perfectly. It is about friends Margo, Summer and Whitney who are all first wives who meet after leaving a support group meeting. It seems the meeting was just not for these ladies and instead they form their own group calling it the Jilted Wives Club, as each was jilted by their craptastic ex-husbands. This story is about Whitney and Luca. This is a sweet, funny and at times saucy story about one woman who is trying to find a new life after having her old one ripped away from her by her cheating ex. She is single with two children and ends up with a complication in the form of a very handsome and sexy, along with younger, man. I enjoyed this book and am looking forward to reading the next in the series.

I received a copy of this book and am leaving my honest review. My opinions are all my own.
