Soul Mates in Romeo #2

Love Not at First Sight

Rate this book
When your soul mate is the man you loathed at first sight…Book Two in Sarah Ready’s Soul Mates in Romeo series sparkles with tension and a delicious helping of swoon-worthy romance.

Veronica Diaz loves her career, her friends and the great outdoors – she has no room in her life for men. In fact, she knows there are only two types of men in the world: players and wanna-be players and she wants nothing to do with any of them.

So when a psychic informs Veronica that her fated soul mate is Frederick Knight “The King of Players,” Veronica does what any sensible woman would do – she runs.

A twist of fate lands Veronica in the depths of a pitch-black cave system with a man she’s never met and can’t see. As Veronica and Sam struggle to survive they open up, share their secrets, and risk their lives for each other. Soon Veronica starts to wonder if maybe not all men are players, and maybe she can trust Sam enough to fall in love.

The only problem: Sam is actually Frederick Knight. The man Veronica swore she’d never, ever, ever love.

In fact, she loathed him at first sight.

And if they make it out of the cave alive, and Veronica sees him for the first time, she’ll loathe him again. Won’t she?

But maybe, sometimes you can only see who someone really is when you can’t see them at all? And maybe you can only fall in love when it’s not at first sight?

“This will easily and unequivocally be one of your top reads this year.” Bookaddict (Chasing Romeo, Book 1 in the Soul Mates in Romeo Series)

Steam Level: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 (several very descriptive sex scenes)
Trigger Warning: cheating (side characters)

Veronica Diaz believes two things to be true: love makes you weak and all men are players or wannabe players. Unfortunately, she lives in Romeo, NY which is hometown to the famous soulmate psychic Miss Erma. When it's revealed that Veronica's soulmate is moving to town and is none other than Frederick Knight- aka The King of the Players- she skips town for a hiking trip. While out on the trail, she follows a seemingly lost hiker into a cave where they both end up trapped in the darkness and must try to find a way out together. Little does she know, the man she depends on for survival is really her soulmate and nothing like the player he's portrayed as in the public eye. Will Veronica's thoughts on love change or will she emerge from the darkness with an even colder heart?

If Bear Grylls teamed up with the Love is Blind producers, this book would be the result. While you definitely have to suspend disbelief on this one, I enjoyed how this had a unique storyline where the main characters are fighting to survive. I could definitely understand falling for someone who is keeping you safe in a near death experience. And getting to know someone for their personality rather than their looks definitely has its merits too. I liked the chemistry between Sam and Veronica, although the steam was a bit much- especially given the circumstances. I definitely understood the struggle Veronica faced with merging the two identities of her soulmate. And her feelings about men totally made sense. It was interesting to see her growth throughout the book. If you're looking for a quick romance filled with adventure, then definitely give this one a try!

Oh man can covers be deceiving! And so can forgetting what you read in the summary 😅 but oh boy I thought this was going to be a lighted hearted cute novel, instead I got an anxiety on the edge of my seat steamy romance!

Veronica does trust men at all. She is independent as they come and an adventurer, but she has a habit of running from things, which lands her in a cave with Sam who is so sweet and kind and thoughtful and everything you want in a guy. I absolutely loved him and my heart broke for him with things he went through.

It was a bit of an instalove, but when you are in a life or death situation those things and stuck together, feelings can develop rather quickly! They have great chemistry and bring the heat as well!

My heart was in my throat I feel like for most of this! It’s not what I was expecting in the best way and I’m so glad I read it! I absolutely loved it!

I received an early copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Veronica doesn't want a man, and she thinks all men are players or wanna be players. She runs Aunt Erma when told of who her soul mate is.

Sam is unhappy. He is living as a billionaire persona of Fredrick Knight. He was hurt when his wife left him for his business partner. He has tried to live up to the media hype that he is a player, but it isn't him.

Sam and Veronica find each other in the woods, and they end up saving each other's lives. Lies catch up with them.

The soul mate electricity reverberates through this novel. The characters have so much chemistry. They experience true love. The journey to each other is fun and heart breaking at times, but the HEA is worth it.

Amazing - Page- Turning Adventure and Rom-Com all-in-one!

This book has everything - adventure, mistaken identity, enemies to lovers, warm friendships, and well-written deep characters with flaws who are able to grow! I couldn't put it down and just loved how Sam and Veronica could be real, caring, and open in the dark to get through their scary situation but once they were rescued reality and fear stepped back in. But they both grew from the experience and I enjoyed that part of the book as well! A complete winner and must read!

A fantastic romcom adventure
5 stars

I adored the first book in this series, Chasing Romeo, and couldn’t wait to get my hands on this book about Veronica, Chloe from the first book’s best friend. Each book stands completely alone but you’ll definitely want to check out Chasing Romeo at some point as it’s an absolute hoot! And this book is just as much of a delight!

Psychic octogenarian, Aunt Erma, has never been wrong with her love predictions but Veronica refuses to believe that odious billionaire playboy, Frederick Knight, is her soulmate. She’s more of a free spirit, nature loving, kick-ass kind of gal as opposed to his high-living, highfalutin lifestyle. I liked her immensely - it was hard not to. She was a strong woman who owned her personality and knew what she did and didn’t want out of life. But the fact she was able and willing to grow was really wonderful.

Sam, too, was a great character. He was coming back to himself after 5 years of getting over a betrayal by living up to the stereotypical playboy lifestyle. But at heart he was always a bit of a computer nerd. He was also empathetic and super sweet when it came to Veronica. I do question how a bona fide introvert would be able to live an extrovert lifestyle for 5 whole years - I’m exhausted at even the mere thought - but it didn’t put me off him.

Despite their relatively short time together, Veronica and Sam’s love felt real and honest but definitely heightened by their situation in the cave. I loved their connection and loved that the pair fell for each other despite never having seen what the other looked like. And all the “I see you” stuff - that gave me all the true romance vibes.

I know from Chasing Romeo that Sarah Ready is an excellent writer but this book just confirmed that for me. She does smart, funny and sexy so damn well. She also writes incredibly realistically. I got a wee bit anxious when she was describing the cave scenes which just shows how talented she is. (It’s not too scary / claustrophobia inducing, so fear not!)

I would now definitely class myself as a fan of Sarah Ready, her stories and her writing and I can’t wait to read more in this series. And I might just have to do backlist buy and binge of Sarah Ready very soon. But this book was a delight from start to finish. There was action, adventure, jeopardy, sex and romance. If that’s not the perfect blend for a romcom then I don’t know what is. 5 stars for this one and definitely recommended.

A visceral book that had my heart pounding and my blood racing numerous times. This wasn't a typical Sarah Ready book that had me snort laughing, instead I was turning pages so fast that I completely devoured this thing in just a couple hours because I had to make sure this couple survived their adventure AND fell in love!

We are back in the small town of Romeo where soulmates run supreme and the psychic matchmaker, Aunt Erma, has a very high track record of predicting everlasting love. Veronica wants nothing to do with the big L word and certainly wants nothing to do with Erma's forecast on her love life. Veronica is so dead set on not meeting the man of her supposed dreams that she runs away. She runs deep into the woods where no one, especially her soulmate, will find her, unfortunately she runs right into a man.

Sam needs to hit pause on his life, it has sort of spiraled out of control. After his now ex-business partner and ex-wife just had a baby together, Sam begins to rethink about how his life is going and where he thought he would be. Sam decides to get away from everyone and everything, but plunging into a dark cave in the small town of Romeo and barely surviving isn't exactly what he had in mind. At least he met Veronica in the dark and if he had to go through it all again, he wouldn't have wanted to be lost and in peril with anyone else.

With all the same soulmate quirks and destiny qualities I love about this Romeo series, I quickly fell in love with everything in this book. While my heart basically beat out of my chest the entire time, I actually loved the action and all the twists in this second book. I can hardly wait for the next person to fall in love and see what happens in Romeo.

*Paperback

So I finished this one in a couple of hours. I loved it just as much as Married by Sunday. I think this is probably the spiciest of the Soul Mates In Romeo books that I’ve read so far and I loved it.

Love Not At First Sight and Married By Sunday are my favs in the series so far. I think I have 2 books left in the series.

I adored Sam and Veronica’s characters and the side characters. The whole town of Romeo is just so charming.

This one has several tropes…

🥊Enemies to Lovers (my fav!)
🕳️Forced Proximity
💨InstaLove (trope I loathe)
💰Secret Identity (rich dude)
❤️Soul Mates
🤦‍♂️Daddy Issues

It’s weird because how can you have enemies to lovers AND InstaLove?! Well when you fall for someone you can’t see and they happen to be your enemy…it just works. So this is my one exception for my anti instalove stance…I was into it for this one book.

I just love Sarah Ready so it’s no surprise that I enjoyed another one of her books.

It’s a great book, especially for summer reading and for crushing reading goals coming in at <200 pages.

Psychic matchmaker, Aunt Erma, strikes again with her soul mate prediction for her niece Chloe's best friend, Veronica Diaz. Aunt Erma may have a 100% success rate, but Veronica lives her life with the resolute belief that there are two kinds of men: players and wannabe players.

When Veronica finds out her soul mate is the King of Players, Fredrick Knight, a man splashed all over media with countless women on his arm, it's definitely loathe at first sight. But when she gets lost in a dark cave with Sam, a geeky, funny, truly nice guy, Veronica may have to amend her belief on the types of men that exist.

Ready, a brilliant rising star in contemporary romance, does it again, weaving her magic throughout the words in this fun, light-hearted read. She then adds an unexpected depth with endearingly flawed characters and their personal growth. Sam and Veronica are so authentic you'll be quickly vested in their story and cheering for their HEA. And don’t get me started on the heat level of this one!

I love the unique premise of this story and was pleasantly surprised at how completely riveting a storyline taking place largely in a cave system was. Romeo, NY, is a enchanting small town, and every character I’ve met so far has captivated my heart. This charming, delightful, full-of-feels story will be your very best read this summer, so run to the 1-Click now and immerse yourself in all things Romeo!

Oh my what a read. What would you do if you followed a stranger into a cave only to make sure they were safe? What would you do if you and that stranger have to depend on each other to survive? Well fate put Veronica and Sam right in that path with out either knowing. Thus book reminds me of dating in the dark but with a few twist of course.

Your going to love how this book reads and yes its second in the series but your still going to love the read even if you start with this one. Kinda like how I did. Veronica and Sams journey in this book is something else and how the author was able to pull everything together to make you feel like your right there with them in the dark. I can't wait to hear more about this coup!e and of course others mentioned in the story in future books by this author.

I thought this would be your usual small-town romance. Two people meet because the guy needed to get away from the city. I wasn't banking on Veronica and Sam falling in love while they were stuck in a cave during a hike-gone-wrong. And without even seeing each other's face at that.

Their story is pretty fast-paced but it works. I loved it. I loved it even more with how their story goes. I liked their storyline a lot. As I said, it's not your usual reformed hero getting away from the public eye and meet the girl who hates him. You'll definitely enjoy this one just like I do.

Sarah Ready simply writes amazing stories. She gives us emotionally charged stories with realistic characters that have insecurities and vulnerabilities that will have you empathizing with them as they work their way to their happy ending.

Veronica is jaded, and she has good reasons for being that way, but when Aunt Edna the psychic soulmate predictor comes to tell Veronica what she has seen, to say she wasn’t open to it would be an understatement.

This is a story of self acceptance and awareness as well as a story about personal growth. You need to come with Veronica on her journey to life and hopefully love.

Sarah Ready will have your attention and keep it until the very end. Don’t miss out on this one!

Aunt Erma strikes again! I loved this book as much as the first book in the series and it was completely different. Unlike Chloe in book 1, Veronica wants nothing to do with love. She’s been damaged from events in her past and when Erma comes to call about her soulmate, Veronica runs. Frederick, aka Sam, is acting out a life that’s not true to who he really is and, in fact, that life is word for word exactly what Veronica does not want for herself. The problem will be whether Veronica can accept Frederick for who he really is underneath. I loved the aspect of these two being stuck together and getting to know each other in the way they did. This was such a fun and sweet story, I loved it!

Another one knocked out of the park! This book is so fun to read. Veronica and Sam meet one another while lost in a cave. They truly need each other to survive. Mix that in with Veronica's upbringing, and the fact the local fortune teller has revealed Veronica's soul mate. This is one fun ride! Really enjoyed this and love the way Veronica and Sam were so honest with one another! Rooting for Sam from the beginning!

The Masks We Wear . . .

When a psychic matchmaker tells Veronica Diaz that her fated soulmate is Frederick Knight, the man who tops the “players” list, she won’t even risk a chance meeting with the obnoxious man. She considers ALL men fall into one of two categories, absolute players and wanna-be players. Neither is acceptable! So she runs.

Fate puts Veronica in a pitch-black cave, trapped with an unknown man. Yet Veronica and Sam’s struggle for survival brings them closer as they talk about their insecurities and secrets. They are protective of each other. Sam helps Veronica realize there are some decent men in the world and she trusts Sam… enough to love him?

But Fate loves throwing curves and, if they ever escape the caves, she will discover Sam is actually Frederick Knight. Will she still let herself love the man she knew in the caves? Or will she immediately dismiss the feelings that had started, and walk away, just because she had pre-judged and rejected him already?

The story line, despite being somewhat predictable, will still capture the reader, heart and all, and take you on an adorable journey. The characters are fantastic, Veronica being a strong woman who knows her mind (yet is still willing to accept change) and Sam who needed a re-set to his life and was really a very nice guy trying to project a carefree image to hide his pain. Without the ability to read facial cues, the two had to talk and get to know each other, to “see” the real person underneath the masks we sometimes wear. Grab your copy and see where their journey takes them.

I'm liking this series and was pleasantly surprised by the scenario here.

Veronica is an adventure girl - and not ready to settle down with a player. She already knows what one looks like and tells you about her experiences with her father. When Aunt Erma announces that she's predicted who Veronica's "soul mate" is, she goes running and avoids her for two weeks until she's cornered and it's revealed that Frederick Knight, aka the NYC playboy billionaire, she wants nothing to do with him and she goes hiking in the woods for two weeks.

When out on the trail she spots a man going off-trail and into a cave, she follows him in to warn him about the dangers of being in there...and the two get stuck falling through a hole and have to navigate their way out of there with just the light from his expensive watch. Frederick is running away from his playboy persona and introduces himself as "Sam" - his middle name and what his family calls him. The two get together and after spending a few days trying to get out, they end up falling for each other until they're out and it's revealed who Sam really is.

I was invested in this one - it wasn't the normal scenario enemies to lovers that you would expect but it fit perfectly with the first novel in humor, connection between characters, and heart. Hoping for more in the town of Romeo!

3.5-4 stars. Veronica Diaz is convinced that love is a weakness and wants no part of it. So when her soulmate is revealed and he's coming to her hometown soon, what's a girl to do but obviously run away? Turns out that Veronica can't escape from fate. Sam, aka Frederick Knight, aka Veronica's soulmate, has done some soul searching of his own to reclaim his true self. He wants a fresh start from his outer media persona and winds up stuck in a cave with Veronica. With no light to guide them or to see the other properly, they forge a trust and bond that is devoid of pretenses or judgment. I liked how natural and easy they were with one another and in times of stress, that level of connection is heightened. While a fun and easy read, I liked how vulnerable they were with one another and how it all went down once Veronica realized who she was trapped with all along and the aftermath that follows. Both Veronica and Sam have to confront certain issues and realize that love is worth having after all.

Love Not at First Sight by Sarah Ready is the second book of the Soul Mates in Romeo series, a collection of stand-alone contemporary romance novels set in Romeo, NY, the official town of love. I flew through this book in the matter of an evening. I couldn't put it down. This novel may be short on pages, but it's big on impact. My emotions ran the gambit from laughing to holding my breath to weeping in dismay to crying tears of joy.

Ready has a knack for creating endearing relationships that are believable and meaningful. My favorite thing about Sam and Veronica is their transformation as individuals because of the relationship developing between them. Of course this story features two of my favorite tropes, enemies-to-lovers and forced proximity, with the added bonus of both characters being kept in the dark, quite literally. Love Not at First Sight shows how the right kind of love can make you a better person. After devouring books one and two, I can't wait for book three in this series. In the meantime, I guess I'll check out Sarah Ready's backlist.

Sarah Ready is a relatively new author to me. I found Love Not At First Sight an entertaining story that ticked a lot of boxes for me.
This is Veronica Diaz and Frederick Knight (aka Sam)’s story. When a psychic predicts the man of her dreams is Frederick Knight, an absolute player, a man that she has met and disliked on sight, Veronica is determined to avoid him at all cost.
However fate often works in mysterious ways and when Veronica and Sam land themselves in a heap of trouble at the bottom of a cave they need to lean on each other to survive. In the darkness they open up to one another and trust is given.
The characters are engaging, and I found them easy to like and relate too. This was a quirky story that had me invested from the start. What happens when all is revealed and Veronica learns that Sam, the man she put her trust in, is actually the man she cannot stand, Frederick?

Love Not at First Sight by Sarah Ready is book 2 in the Soul Mates in Romeo Series. I have to say I was intrigued from the beginning. Vee refused to believe that her soulmate was someone she couldn’t get away from. It was so funny how she followed him right into the cave without even knowing who he was. Sarah kept me guessing what would happen next and how would Vee feel when she found out her soulmate was none other than the man she is trapped with. It was an emotional ride. One moment I was sure that only one would make it out..then the next I just knew they both had to…but what actually happened…well you’ll have to read it to find out. Sometimes the best things come from the worst situations, then sometimes not so much. I found myself in tears many times. I received a free advanced copy to read and review.

Veronica and Sam are two strangers stuck in a dark cavern together and grow close during their struggle to get out. However, in the real world she doesn't like his public image at all. To make it worse, there is an old lady who insists that they're soulmates. I liked the cavern outing but I found it a little difficult to buy Sam's switch from an introvert geek to Playboy of the Year to introvert geek again. Something pleasant about the author's writing has had me reading several of her books in a row.

First I loved the book . The writer did it again . She wrote one amazing story . When it is your destiny to meet your soulmate whatever you wish and want it will happen . She loathes him because of his playboy image and runs away so she will avoid him . He is acting like the player but that is just a image he use because of the betrayal of two people of his past . When they meet and because they are in total dark they have to trust each other for their survival . They each find their other half . He is so caring and willing to do everything so she will be safe . Amazing characters . I am looking forward for the next book of Sarah Ready .
