Captivity Alaska #1

Wild in Captivity

Rate this book
Ambitious L.A. lawyer Isabelle Marcano would rather run a mile in her Manolos than fly off to rustic Captivity, Alaska. But close the client’s sale successfully and her firm will find room on the letterhead for one more name. Still, taking a career detour to a place that doesn’t even have a Starbucks sounds like the seventh level of hell.

Then her best friend points out the town has something stronger on tap than caffeine. Testosterone. With two single men to every single woman, this assignment might just be the best thing to happen to her sex life since the invention of the waterproof Rabbit.

Until her sexy client introduces her as his fiancée to hide what she’s doing in town, and all her aspirations of hot Lumberjack Sex fly out the airplane window.

Though...fiancés do have sex, right? Those who don’t want to answer to small-town busybodies better look like they do, epically, even when the mere prospect plays havoc with her professional responsibilities. And her hormones.

Her firm’s getting antsy to finalize the merger. But the more she learns about Trace, about why he’s selling, the more conflicted she becomes about the deal. Failure to close means losing the partnership she’s always wanted, but the bigger failure might just be kissing Trace goodbye…

"Like slipping inside you while the sun slips below the horizon, and watching you light up in my arms as the first stars light up the sky."
I love small town romance. I know it can be annoying with all the gossip and everyone up in everyone else's business, but there's a feeling of belonging that just draws me in. I'd been waiting to read this book for a while, and I finally did it. It's also my first book by Samanthe Beck, and hopefully not the last.

"When Trace Shanahan kissed a woman, she felt kissed. When he held a woman, she felt held. And when he fucked a woman, she felt everything."
Trace has everything to be one of my book boyfriends. Grumpy, growly, bearded, wears flannel, it just works for me. Plus, his heart's in the right place, and he's caring and protective of his people: his sister, his workers, and all his friends.

"Wound up, hard up, and high maintenance to boot, but he’d never enjoyed anyone quite like he enjoyed her."
I think defining Izzy as high maintenance is not right, she's just a city girl. She's also a lawyer, on her way to a promotion at her firm. She's determined, and she's in it for the right reasons, not a shark like so many others.

"I didn’t expect candlelight and roses. I didn’t want a grand romance. All I wanted was a bear daddy fuck buddy."
Trace is looking to sell his family company, and Izzy is the lawyer chosen to mediate between him and the buyer. She gets sent to Captivity, Alaska for that reason. OK, she doesn't fit. She wears heels, she has no idea how to go around in the snow, she has particular food choices, and she's afraid of wildlife (and geese). While she's there, she's also looking to end her dry spell. And then... Trace happens.

"You get any penis envy, Izzy, just say the word. You can have mine whenever you want."
Not looking forward to having people interfering, he drops a little white lie: he tells everyone she's his girlfriend. In a very small-town way, they all embrace her and their relationship. It doesn't hurt that there's chemistry in spades between them and that they're both very much attracted to each other.
However, Izzy's afraid of a possible conflict of interests, and she resists him.

"I need you to take off all your clothes, put your reading glasses on, and say stuff like, ‘due consultation,’ and ‘pending claims,’ until I beg for mercy."
The thing is that Trace is relentless. And he tells the best bedtime stories (no spoilers, but this scene was hot!). I was sort of disappointed of the first time they had sex, because there was so much tension I thought it would be hotter, but maybe that's a 'me' thing.
Suddenly the city girl is very much entwined in the small town, and feelings are caught. Secrets and omissions come to light that make theirs a hard-won happily ever after.

All the city people only made this more enjoyable for me, and I had a couple of laugh-out-loud moments. There was a bit of a supernatural element thrown in the story I couldn't quite understand, and I don't think is needed, but I think it served as Trace's conscience in a way.

"Only with you. Always with you. Forever."
"Forever. That, counselor, is a deal I refuse to walk away from."

I got all the fuzzy feelings I'm always looking for at the end. All the angst in the story came from the characters and what they're dealing with, as in real life problems and not made-up drama. Neither of them were looking for each other, but they had a huge impact in each other's lives and changed it for the better.

Can't wait for Bridget's story now!

Deliciously hot!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Samantha Beck is well known for her steamy romance and she holds back nothing when writing her stories. You’re guaranteed some sugar, some spice, and lots of nice. This book is no different! It’s loaded with all of the above, plus a delicious leading man who just sounds like someone I need in my life. LOL
Beck knows how to create characters that work perfectly off of each other. City girl meets small-town hottie and sparks start flying. The hidden secrets, fake fiancé, a bit of conflict of interest, and a delicate path to doing the right thing. Even the towns people are highly involved in the story and they definitely know everyone’s business.
Beck has created a captivating story that is loaded with the heat and spice we love but it’s seemingly difficult path to the happy ever after we crave. When sticky secrets start unfolding, we’re all in for a surprise or two.
Plenty of funny situations and characters balance together with the tough business choices in Wild in Captivity. But this forbidden romance and fake fiancée captures us with all of the heat, plus those warm and fuzzy feels needed in Captivity, Alaska.
Seit dem Tod seines Bruders wird Buschpilot Trace von Schuldgefühlen geplagt und beschließt, das Familienunternehmen zu verkaufen. Da niemand davon erfahren soll, weil er nicht umgestimmt werden möchte, will er auch die Identität der Anwältin geheim halten, die aus L.A. nach Captivity, Alaska reist, um den Deal abzuschließen. Aber da Isabelle absolut nicht wie die üblichen Touristen aussieht, behauptet er spontan, sie sei die Frau, die er heiraten möchte.
Isabelle ist ein Workaholic und hofft auf eine baldige Beförderung zur Partnerin, sobald sie ihren Job in Captivity erledigt hat. Da sie normalerweise viel arbeitet, möchte sie außerdem ein wenig entspannen und sich vielleicht mit dem ein oder anderen "Bärendaddy" vergnügen, wie ihr bester Freund die naturverbundenen Männer dort liebevoll nennt. Traces Notlüge macht ihren Plänen jedoch einen Strich durch die Rechnung, da sie sich als seine potenzielle Verlobte ja kaum mit anderen Männern treffen kann.
Um die Interessen ihres Klienten zu wahren, spielt Isabelle mit und ihre falsche Beziehung bringt sie einander näher. Für Isabelle ist eine Beziehung eigentlich tabu, schließlich ist er ihr Mandant und das wäre absolut unprofessionell, aber es ist auch schwer, sich der Anziehung zu widersetzen. Trace ist ganz der Typ harte Schale, weicher Kern und kämpft ganz allein mit seinen Schuldgefühlen, versucht aber gleichzeitig für seine Schwester und seine Freunde da zu sein, weil er sie nicht enttäuschen will. Bei Isabelle ist er davon beeindruckt, wie aufmerksam sie ihrer Arbeit nachgeht, und überrascht, wie sehr sie die kalte Natur Alaskas überfordert.
Obwohl die Gefühle hochkochen wissen sie aber auch, dass ihre Leben zu verschieden sind und sie sich zurückhalten müssen, weil diese Sache zwischen ihnen keine Zukunft haben kann. Die Fake-Beziehung, die Herausforderungen der Kälte und die sympathischen Nebencharaktere sorgen für gute Unterhaltung und es fehlt der Geschichte auch nicht an ernsten Themen, sodass es insgesamt ein schöner und kurzweiliger Liebesroman ist.
I liked the Alaska setting and the characters in this latest book by Samanthe Beck (one of my favourite Entangled Brazen authors). It's a fake engagement romance, with lawyer Isabelle coming to Captivity, Alaska to see the completion of a sale and her client, Trace, having kept the sale secret, needing an excuse for why a fancy big city girl is in town. Pretending to be engaged gives Isabelle the chance to get to know the town and the townspeople, and to realize that maybe Trace should reconsider his plan to sell the family airline, considering some of the circumstances behind it (even if this would mean a dent in her career plans). Do something for her career or for her love? That's the conundrum for Isabelle to deal with. I enjoyed how everything played out and there's a nice set up for the next in the series!
New series, new setting, new characters. I don’t know how the author managed, but I’m already hooked.
I’m lying, I have an inkling of how she does it. First, she’s a master at small town romances, as she’s already shown in other books. She created compelling characters. And she chose Alaska as the setting, to keep things more interesting–dangerous weather and isolation can do that to a story. Add to that a little family drama, and you end up with a good example of small town romances.
The romance itself was both hot and thought provoking. The chemistry between Izzy and Trace is amazing right from the start. And I really like that, being total opposites at the beginning, they meet somewhat in the middle when they decide to have a real relationship. They had such an impact on each other’s life.
I wasn’t sold on the little supernatural sprinkled in the story. It felt a bit like deus ex machina since it often helped moving the story forward. The trick is to suspend your disbelief.
What I found the most inspiring is that there was no villain. No enemy to fight. The enemy is inside yourself–your fears, your ambitions, your guilt. Things happen, take it in stride. A bit like real life, isn’t it?
Throw a city girl in a small town covered with snow, and you’re sure to end up with hilarious moments. This book is full of humor too, and that makes a good balance with the more emotional scenes.
And the little epilogue promises an interesting book 2. I can’t wait!
Quickie
We have an opposites attract, fake relationship story. We have Trace-the grump and Isabelle-friendly one, Trace wants to sell but doesn't want anyone to know that, it is a small town and you know everyone is always in everyone's business and he knows that if they see Isabelle, they know something is up so he concocts a fake relationship. That is just going to screw up Isabelle's plans on having a friend with bennies while she is there and even though Trace is willing to be that for her, he is a client and she can't go there, or can she.. It was cute, fun, could have done without the ridiculous machine.
Wasn’t so much a bad book but after just a few chapters it got boring, lost steam and just never picked back up. The mention of the FMC diet was annoying, MMC was intriguing but lackluster, The info dump on future characters for other books was too much, the constant use of bear daddy… (WTF) and the talking dog….. yeah DNF 60%
Read this if you like: Faking dating, opposites attract, small towns, one bed, spicy 🔥
Firstly, I did not read these in order. I read the second one months ago. I'm reading the third one right after this. Seems fine to do!
Fancy pants L.A. lawyer Isabelle Marcano is off to rustic Captivity, Alaska to close a client’s sale. She's hoping when she succeeds her firm will find room on the letterhead for her. Still it sounds daunting to her to go to a place that doesn’t even have a Starbucks.
Her best friend kindly points out to her the town has two single men to every single woman. It sounds great for her sex life. That is in until her sexy client introduces her as his fiancée to hide what she’s doing in town, and all her aspirations of hot lumberjack sex fly out the airplane window.
Her firm’s getting antsy to finalize the merger. The more she learns about Trace, about why he’s selling, the more conflicted she becomes about the deal. Failure to close means losing the partnership she’s always wanted, but the bigger failure might just be kissing Trace goodbye.
We allll know how fake dating always goes. It's definitely one of my favorites tropes. I loved this one so much. Them fake dating is totally believable. Their connection is immediate and so strong. Samanthe is very talented in her writing. Trace is totally dreamy but still realistic. The banter is perfection. The tension between them is 🔥. Her character development is so good. She's able to perfectly describe multiple people without the amount of people being overwhelming. I cried, I laughed, I swooned. Highly recommend this book!
Nope. One too many "Bear Daddy" and/or "Bear Daddy dick" mentioned for me.
WTH was that??? I got half way thru and then I just couldn't take it anymore. Every time I read one of the two phrases, I kept thinking Shape Shifting? or the weird-ass Furries? Or she was trying to be cute in referencing big burly mountain men as 'bear daddy'? Either way, it was a turn off for me. And the author did go way overboard in infusing those phrases into the heroine's inner dialogue. I was embarrassed for her. Then the big box of condoms AND the dildo falling out of her suitcase... trying way too hard to be edgy and sexy. It just all felt unbelievable for me.
And I was really bummed out, because I love the Alaskan setting, love mountain men heroes!!! This could have been such a fun story, minus the constant 'bear daddy dick' thoughts.
This book is one of them books you just want to cosy up to and have a laugh.
Well Isabelle & Trace divide right into by annoying to the town that they are engaged. There is a perfectly good reason of it because they keeping a secret deal from the town. Now this deal we see the true heart breaking reason for it and Isabelle telling him that isn't the way...no spoilers
Isablly / Izzy & Trace are hilarious together and they are some steamy scenes to. And there is alot of heart in this story. Especially the town community & Trace's family who are fantastic ❤
My heart broke for Lilah most of all. I hope she gets a story however I am that she has Isabelle & Trace that treat her as family.
My fav scene is the escape the geese scene !! Haha I can see it all because I have my own person experience escape the geese 🦆
This is a small town, forbidden, fake fiancé romance. That’s a lot happening!
It’s both sweet and steamy. Funny and emotional.
I like the city girl in small town Alaska falling for the local guy. It lends to some funny moments that lightened the emotional aspect.
The secondary characters are definitely an important part of the story.
There is family issues involved as well as the romance.
There are secrets and a bit of something unexpected (to me)
It was original, I liked the characters and I’m a sucker for forbidden romance so I loved that aspect!
The chemistry and steam are good.
It had an original twist on it that made it not just a typical small town, fish out of water romance.
This was a good read. If you like a book with a fake relationship, opposites attract, and a small-town feel, you'll like this one.
Trace has no idea what he's getting himself into when he claims to be trying to make Izzy his fiance.
Good for him though because these two have some good chemistry. In true small-town fashion, their relationship is the talk of the town.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
WILD IN CAPTIVITY is the first instalment in Samanthe Beck’s contemporary, adult CAPTIVITY ALASKA erotic, romance series. This is thirty year old, Alaskan bush pilot / CEo of Captivity Air Trace Shanahan, and twenty-five year old, California attorney Isabelle Marcano’s storyline. There is a slight paranormal element to the story line.
Told from dual third person perspectives (Trace and Izzy) WILD IN CAPTIVITY follows California attorney as she is tasked with researching the sale of Captivity, Alaska’s Captivity Air to a US investor, a sale of which owner Trace Shanahan has asked to be kept on the down low. Working in Alaska, Izzy finds herself the ‘fake fiancee’ of Captivity Air’s CEO Trace Shanahan, when the locals begin investigating the appearance of a ‘city girl’ in their small Alaskan town. As Trace and Izzy’s fake relationship quickly turns into something more, Captivity’s secrets begin to reveal, and Izzy struggles when she is caught in the middle of a potential disaster. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Izzy and Trace, and the fall-out a Izzy is unable to get past Trace’s lies by omission, as her time in Alaska comes to a close.
Trace Shanahan has chosen to sell his shares in Captivity Air, but has yet to reveal the real reason behind his impetuous plans. Months earlier, Trace and his sister Bridget’s life imploded with the loss of someone they loved, and in the ensuing months everything is changing in Captivity Alaska. Isabelle Marcano is hoping to make partner at the LA law firm for which she works, and sealing the deal on the sale of Captivity Air is her ticket to the big time but getting involved with the ‘client’ is an ethical problem, and in this, our heroine is hoping to keep not only the sale of Captivity Air on the downlow but her relationship with Trace, as well.
The relationship between Trace and Izzy is one of immediate attraction but from the outset Trace needs everyone to believe that Izzy is not whom she claims to be. As his ‘fake fiance’ news spreads fast about our story line couple, news that brings out the humor, rumors and future plans for the people of Captivity Alaska. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
We are introduced to the people of Captivity Alaska including Trace’s sister and fellow pilot Bridget Shanahan and their dog Key; Inn owner Rose Iquat, and her daughter Lilah; bar owner/ former Army special forces Ford Langley; fishing boat captain Jorg Henrickson; pilots Wyatt ‘Wingnut’ Jensen and Maddox ‘Mad Dog’ Douglas; Izzy’s best friend Danny, and their boss/ attorney Chuck Reynolds.
WILD IN CAPTIVITY is a story of loss and grief; guilt and acceptance; family, friendships, relationships and love. The premise is inviting and heart warming; the romance is intimate and seductive; the characters are flirty, wounded and spirited.
All reviews posted at Tales of Love, Life, and Murder
The premise is so awesome, I was really excited to read this book but that fizzled out almost instantly. There are a lot of things that don’t work for me here such as all telling, no showing. The characters are completely undeveloped and one-dimensional so the book is all plot, no story. This seems more like a rough draft of a play than a novel because it’s just endless narration. That can work to an extent if there are great descriptions to fill in the blanks, but that’s not happening here. The descriptions are more along the lines of “. . . the Ariana Grande lookalike in the Devil Wears Prada wardrobe giggled.” That’s a quote.
And don’t even get me started on ‘bear daddy’. A cutesy term is great if used sparingly but it was used nine times in the first 2% of the story. If it had stopped after that, I could have let it go, but nope. It was very much like when your parents try to use slang, so completely awkward and senseless. I rarely DNF a book and usually tough it out because most get better even after a rough start but I couldn’t even make it to chapter five, this was just too painful. I received an ARC from Grey’s Promotions in exchange for an honest review.
Oh no.
1. Accident proximity.
2. Bear daddy.
So he knew what he wanted and he still had no plan??? Next, she is a lawyer. Good one at that and she agrees to the sudden bullshit?? So they are to stay together to make everyone believe? Like, there is no way a couple can stay at their respective places no matter what and they couldn’t come up with a decent reason??
I know this book is loved by almost everyone but BEARDADDY??? Really…. I couldn’t read past 7 chapters. I just can’t stand all of the above. I mean, I love forced or accidental proximity. I am all for it. It’s amazing if done right. But this just doesn’t make sense to me.
This was sooo cute and fun story.
This book has a lot of the tropes I enjoyed including grumpy/sunshine and fake dating and I loved it. And yes it was a bit cliché-ish and I wish the characters were a little more flesh out but overall it was such a delight to read.
If you like small-town romance with fake dating this is for you.
Isabelle's been given the chance to make partner at her law firm, and it's all contingent upon her closing this deal in the wilds of Alaska. Her new client doesn't want anyone to know why she's really in town, so introducing his lawyer as his fiancée should help disguise why she's really there. Neither expected the insanely hot chemistry they'd have, and neither expected to give into it. But their time together has an expiration date, and Trace is wrestling some serious demons.
Trace and Isabelle's story is hot, entertaining, and I really, really liked them as characters, both individually, and as a couple. I felt for Trace - guilt is a heavy load to carry, especially when it's carried internally with no one to talk it out with. Isabelle was strong, and smart, knew how to get him to think things through, even if it was detrimental to her career - the best kind of heroine, the best kind of person. Their chemistry is hot, their story is entertaining, an altogether great romance.
'Melting the Alaskan snow with a steamy read that will keep your hands and heart warm and your cheeks aflame ! 4.5 stars! -Philippa, TheBritishBibilohpile
'Wild in Captivity' is the latest upcoming release by Samanthe Beck, given to me as an ebook ARC by Grey's Promo to read and review. Thank you for the chance to dive into this sizzling story!
I'm a brand new reader to Samanthe Beck, so I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed reading someone new. I've discovered a quite a few new authors this year thanks to reading and reviewing ebook ARCs, and Samanthe has left quite the impression!
From the opening chapter, it was clear that there would be more than steamy romance and mystery in this novel. Isabelle Marcano from the start seemed like she would be both sexy, funny and entertaining throughout and I can confirm, she lived up to my assumptions when reading about her for the first time when we are introduced to her. She plays off her fellow main character & Alaskan 'bear', Trace Shanahan superbly well, with plenty off off-the-cuff humour and whit from both characters, add in the fact that this is a forbidden AND a forced-proximity (at least in part)? We were truly going to be spoiled for content!
Samanthe does a wonderful job of both isolating the two main characters to give depth to the main storyline (as outlined in the blurb), where Isabelle has been brought in BY Trace, to change something monumental in his life. Trace has some very tough, emotionally-challenging decisions to make, and add to the pile the profile he and Isabelle now had to keep up thanks to the snowball that keeps on getting bigger and bigger, the moment that everything comes to a head--and how it comes about--was only a matter of time.
My ONLY criticisms (if you can call them that), is that there was no physical villain to fight. Or even one--or something--both characters had to deal with physically. I.e. a health condition, a physical conflict, an antagonist from either of their lives. Everything is a mental battle, fighting yourself and what goes on inside our heads and how we, or in this case Trace and Isabelle, can overcome those battles. This was not necessarily a turn-off from reading Wild in Captivity, or Samanthe as an author, but I found it an unexpected change as a reader from the usual styling I read from my plethora of authors. Again, this is not a bad thing and Samanthe's writing skill actually shows this new battle well, but this is something I have to get used to and hopefully will welcome with open arms when I read another of her books in this series.
Overall, Wild in Captivity was a pleasant novel and author to get to read for the first time. You won't be lost for twists and turns, an added dash of the unexpected, or steam that could put a sauna to shame.
Thoroughly looking forward to the next novel! Fingers crossed for an equally pleasant reading experience!
Over the years I've read a number of books by Samantha Beck but I think that Wild in Captivity might be my favorite book by her yet. I'm a sucker for the city girl goes to Alaska and finds love troupe and haven't read one in a while so Wild in Captivity really hit the spot for me. The main and side characters where extremely likable but they had their flaws that they had to make them seem like real people and the side characters were interesting enough that I am dying to see them in their own books, without overshadowing the leads.
LA lawyer Isabelle "Izzy" Marcano is only in Alaska to facilitate a good deal for the selling of the local air field in Captivity for the owner, Trace Shanahan, and that's it, with the hopes that this sale will boost her standing at work enough to make her a partner at her law firm. The issue is that Trace doesn't want anyone in town to know that he's considering selling the air field so when her luggage busts open and the whole town sees that her best friend has slipped some NSFW items in her luggage for an Alaska fling the only way to explain her presence in town is that she is Trace's potential fiancé and she wants to see what Captivity is like. Well there goes her plans for a fling with a hot Alaskan...
Ever since Trace lost his brother in an accident he hasn't loved the airport like he used to, and he's tired of doing all the paperwork by himself, so he's decided to sell it and move on with his life. But he doesn't want his younger sister and the rest of the town to find out until he's sure that he's selling it. When the law firm he hired in LA to handle the sale sends the extremely attractive Izzy he can't help but feel an attraction to her. And when her luggage pops open and it's full of lingerie and condoms he can't help but wonder why she has all of that packed in her bag. With that in everyone's mind he comes up with a little lie, that they've been dating and he's thinking of marrying her but they want to see if she fits in in Captivity. So they decide to keep up the ruse while the negotiations are in progress.
But when a fake relationship starts to turn real can Izzy keep her feelings about the reasons why Trace is selling the airport, and some other secrets she's learned about Trace's sister and family friend in check to do her job properly so she can get what she wants in her work life? Or will she throw it all away for a man she's just met but might actually love?
Hoping for a promotion to junior partner, Los Angeles-based attorney Isabelle "Izzy" Marcano accepts an assignment in Captivity, Alaska managing the potential sale of bush pilot Trace Shanahan's stake in his family company, Captivity Air and Freight. Trace doesn't want anyone in town to know about the prospective sale, so he'd asked the law firm's senior partner, an old family friend, to send someone who would blend in as an extreme adventure tourist. As soon as Trace sees polished, sophisticated Izzy in her tailored business suit and heels, however, he realizes that she's going to do nothing but stand out. Scrambling for another way to explain her presence in Captivity, he's inspired to fake a relationship. News of Trace's new "girlfriend" quickly spreads across town, which has the unintended side effect of interfering with Izzy's plans for her down time while in Captivity: a no-strings attached vacation fling. Trace is single and more than willing to scratch her itch; unfortunately, getting involved with a client is against the attorney-client code of ethics, and Izzy won't risk her career no matter how strong the attraction between them may be.
There was fantastic chemistry between Trace and Izzy from the outset, but I completely understood Izzy's concerns about getting involved with a client. They developed a genuine friendship pretty quickly, which made their relationship start to seem very real even before it turned physical. As they were forced to spend time working closely together on the potential sale, their attraction continued to grow until neither could resist any longer. I loved their flirty, witty banter as they got to know each other, as well as the steamy "bedtime stories" they told whenever Trace had to spend a night away from Captivity for an early flight.
There was a bit of a paranormal/supernatural element to this story that I wasn't expecting, but I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. I also enjoyed the plot twists related to Trace's sister Bridget and one of the other secondary characters. Finally, even though I sometimes felt bad about it, I couldn't help laughing at all of the times Izzy got herself into embarrassing situations. My favorite was when she was chased by the Canadian geese, in large part because of the commentary from Trace and the other onlookers who saw her running through the mud to get away from them.
Overall, I really enjoyed "Wild in Captivity" and recommend it for all fans of contemporary/small town romance and romantic comedy. I look forward to the next book in the series (which will hopefully be about Trace's sister, Bridget).
"Alaskan Men : The odds are good, but the goods are odd. This particular example appeared completely on-brand."
The last thing Isabelle expected was to find herself stuck in a glorified tin can flying through a storm from hell with a burly grump of a lumberjack! So to say her trip to Captivity hasn’t gotten of to the best start would be an understatement &this was all before her favorite suitcase popped open leaving all her lacey underwear flying everywhere! At least she has some steamy nights with the locals to look forward to right? Well that was before her client decided to kiss her &declare that they are dating!
••
All Trace wants is a quiet sale of his shares in the family air freight business &that is definitely not going to happen with the firm sending in a glamour queen to do due diligence. Having to think fast Trace blurts out that Izzy is actually his girlfriend hoping to keep the townsfolk of their trail. However Trace did not quiet expect to feel such a strong pull towards Izzy, seems she has finally awoken something in him, the question is can he convince her that he is worth taking a risk on?
••
Oh how I loved this beautiful small town romance! Izzy, Trace, Key &all the Captivity locals just stole my heart right from the get go! There was nothing that I didn’t love about this book.
••
I loved Izzy and that she was such a boss girl. I loved getting to see her push her own boundaries especially with the snow shoe adventure. I really liked that she bonded with the entire town so seamlessly. As for our boy Trace, gosh did he just steal my heart! But also broke it at the same time, having to see him deal with the lose of Shay was just heart breaking. But did my heart melt seeing him interact &‘talk’ to Key.
••
The secondary characters in this book were just perfection! I loved that they were all so tight knit &wanted the best for Trace. Getting to see them try &meddle was just hilarious! Can we please take a moment to talk about the entire bear daddy thing! This was pure gold! Wing & Mad will definitely milk this entire vibe in their respective books! I absolutely can not wait for Bridget's book, that is sure be be gold!
••
Wild In Captivity is an absolute MUST read!! This book was pure perfection wrapped up in a cute small town romcom!
„Alaskan Boss – Plötzlich verlobt“ von Samanthe Beck ist der Auftakt zu ihrer neuen Alaska Reihe, die erneut in einer kleinen Stadt spielt, wo es aber deutlich winterlicher zugeht als in Bluelick, Kentucky.
Isabelle Marcano ist eine junge und ehrgeizige Anwältin, deren Karriere bisher auf der Überholspur verlief. Dafür nimmt Isabelle ziemlich viel in Kauf und nun trennt sie nur noch ein letzter Auftrag von der lang ersehnten Partnerschaft. In Captivity, Alaska, soll Izzy einen einfachen Firmenverkauf betreuen, aber schnell entwickeln sich die Dinge von einfach zu kompliziert. Eigentlich wollte Izzy hier in der Einöde, wo drei Männer auf eine Frau kommen, ihr Singledasein genießen, welches bei ihren 80-Stunden-Wochen deutlich zu kurz kommt. Doch ihr gutaussehender Mandant erklärt allen bei ihrer Ankunft, sie sei seine Verlobte, und damit platzen ihre Träume von vielen heißen Holzfällern abrupt.
Seit ihrer witzigen Small Town Romance Reihe über die Einwohner des Städtchens Bluelick bin ich ein Fan der Autorin. Mit Captivity geht es erneut in eine süße Kleinstadt, in der man jedoch winterfeste Kleidung braucht, wie unsere Heldin aus L.A. schnell feststellen muss. Der humorvolle und lockere Schreibstil liest sich ausgesprochen gut und beide Hauptfiguren erzählen abwechselnd aus ihren jeweiligen Perspektiven.
Izzy hat seit ihrer Kindheit ihr Ziel fest im Blick und opfert dafür bisher gern ihr Privatleben und ihre Gesundheit. In Alaska ist sie plötzlich gezwungen, auf die Pausentaste zu drücken und hinterfragt einige ihrer Prioritäten. Nicht ganz unschuldig daran ist Trace, der jedoch seine eigenen Geheimnisse mit sich herumträgt.
Die sympathischen Hauptfiguren erobern schnell die Herzen und ich liebe ihre amüsante und knisternde Dynamik. Samanthe Beck fängt die warmherzige Atmosphäre von Captivitiy perfekt ein und es ist zuckersüß, wie sich die gesamte Stadt auf einer Amor-Mission befindet.
Die Story hat mich oft zum Lachen gebracht, aber es gibt auch viele berührende Momente, die ans Herz gehen. Jeder Charakter im Buch hat seine liebenswerten Eigenheiten, aber auch seine Ecken und Kanten, die ihn erst menschlich und nahbar machen. Ich bin jetzt schon ausgesprochen neugierig auf die Fortsetzung, denn das letzte Kapitel verspricht explosive Spannung.
Mein Fazit:
Ich gebe sehr gern eine Leseempfehlung!
Vielen Dank an LYX und NetGalley für dieses Exemplar es hat meine Meinung nicht beeinflusst.
Das Cover ist von den Farben her sehr gut gestaltet und passt auch irgendwie zur Geschichte dazu.
Mein Fazit:
Der Schreibstil ist sehr angenehm und die Geschichte lässt sich leicht und flüssig lesen. Sie ist in der Erzählform aus der Sicht von Trace und Izzy geschrieben. In jedem Kapitel kommen beide zu Wort - es ist auch durch einen kurzen Absatz ersichtlich. Doch hin und wieder habe ich mich schon gefragt wer jetzt dran ist, aber nach ein paar Kapitel ist man dann im Flow drin und dann klappt es sehr gut.
Izzy ist wirklich eine sehr starke Persönlichkeit - sie weiß was sie will und was sie auch dafür tun muss. Sie verzichtet daher auf ziemlich viel (nur seihen wir mal ehrlich - ohne Spaß hat das Leben nicht viel Sinn): Ich finde das lernt Izzy im Buch sehr gut.
Trace hingegen sprüht nach Außen hin eine richtige Arroganz aus - doch im inneren sieht es bei ihm ganz anders aus.
Auch die Nebencharakter sind sehr gut getroffen und konnten mich gefangen nehmen.
Das Setting fand ich toll - ich liebe Geschichten die in Alaska spielen - habe hier schon ein paar Reihen gelesen.
Nach dem Epilog zu schließen freue ich mich schon auf die Schwester von Trace.
Zur Geschichte:
Izzy wird zu einer Vertragsverhandlung nach Alaska geschickt - natürlich mit dem Versprechen auf ihre Partnerschaft (auf welche sie die letzten 5 Jahre) hingearbeitet hat. Doch gleich am Flughafen trifft sie auf einen umwerfenden Mann - hier musste sie gleich auf die Aussage von ihrem besten Freund denken. Doch leider stellt sich später heraus, dass es sich um ihren Mandanten handelt. Also keine Phantasie mehr darüber wie er sich über sie hermacht.
Im Gegenteil als sie gelandet sind - stellt er sie plötzlich als seine Verlobte vor. Daher nimmt er ihr auch noch die letzte Möglichkeit Spaß zu haben. Doch als sie seine Beweggründe erfährt beschließt sie bei diesem Spiel mitzumachen. Doch ein Problem gibt es noch - den die Anziehung die beide verspüren verschwindet leider nicht - doch Izzy möchte unbedingt eisern bleiben - doch mit jeden Tag den die beiden verbringen fällt es ihr immer schwerer......
Und ob sie dem ganzen Standhalten wird und was es mit dem Versteckspiel auf sich hat - lest es einfach selber.
WILD IN CAPTIVITY is a steamy, forbidden romance read. Isabelle is a lawyer and aspiring partner, who has been given a case working on the sale of a small airport in Alaska - if she closes it, she may finally get the title of partner at her firm. As she heads to Alaska, she cannot stop thinking about what her friend told her of the fringe benefits of heading to a small, wilderness town - the bear-daddy men that she can end her dry spell with. One such man is her client, who would fit the bill perfectly - if only it would not be ethically challenging to sleep with him.
When they arrive together in Captivity, Alaska, she is in for a surprise - Trace, her client, introduces her as his soon-to-be-fiance. Trace does not want anyone to know he's selling the airport business that has been in his family for a couple generations, and given that Isabelle does not look like a tourist, he decided to pass her off as his fiance, so they can spend time together and get business done. He cannot help how much he is attracted to her nor how much the town has decided to rally around them as a couple to convince her to move to Captivity.
As they spend time together and their attraction grows, it is getting harder and harder for Isabelle to remember where she should draw the attorney/client lines - and harder for her to resist the pull of the people who live in this small town.
This was a really steamy read with chemistry that is off the charts! The tension is so thick you could cut it with a knife, and the build-up is really delicious. There are plenty of super-hot and also plenty of humorous moments (for instance, getting chased by a bunch of geese) that really made this an entertaining read. I also loved the characters and how they develop and grow, plus what we learn about their pasts. I am hoping Trace's sister will be featured in a future book, as her story seems to be just beginning. If you love forbidden romance, small-town settings, or super-steamy reads, this is the perfect choice!
WILD IN CAPTIVITY is a highly entertaining and steamy read with great characters, fantastic chemistry, and a great plot. Please note that I received an ARC from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
Das Lesen von ALASKAN BOSS - PLÖTZLICH VERLOBT, hat mich SEHR VIEL ZEIT und diverse Gedanken gekostet. Eine ganze Weile war ich gewillt der Übersetzung beziehungsweise dem Übersetzer die Schuld zu geben, denn hier hatte ich schon bei der Private Pleasures-Reihe der Autorin nach einem Wechsel ein Problem, allerdings habe ich von dem Übersetzer auch schon diverse Geschichten gelesen, die mir sehr gut gefallen haben, vielleicht ist es also doch nicht so einfach.
ALASKAN BOSS - PLÖTZLICH VERLOBT ist TEIL 1 der CAPTIVITY, ALASKA - REIHE von SAMANTHE BECK. Ich LIEBE ALASKA als SETTING TOTAL. Ich mag das Raue, die Abgeschiedenheit, den Zusammenhalt. Obwohl es nicht die erste Geschichte ist, die ich von der Autorin lese, hat es mich einige Zeit gekostet, mich in den SCHREIBSTIL einzulesen. Gerade zu Beginn bin ich tatsächlich eher langsam vorangekommen. ERZÄHLT wird die Geschichten aus den PERSPEKTIVEN beider HAUPTCHARAKTERE, die Wechsel sind aber nicht immer ersichtlich und erfolgen oft auch innerhalb der Kapitel. Für mich nicht immer leicht nachzuvollziehen. Irgendwann wurde das Lesen dann aber deutlich LOCKERER und LEICHTER.
Die PROTAGONISTEN dieser Geschichte sind ISABELLE MARCANO und TRACE SHANAHAN. IZZY ist ANWÄLTIN aus der GROßSTADT, TRACE Besitzer einer FLUGGESELLSCHAFT in CAPTIVITY, die er verkaufen möchte. IZZY soll den Verkauf abwickeln und sieht diesen Job als Sprungbrett um zur Partnerin in der Kanzlei aufzusteigen. Zunächst ungefragt wird sie dann zur FakeVERLOBTEN von TRACE, der mit dem Verkauf des Familienunternehmens nicht offen und ehrlich umgeht und eine gute Erklärung für IZZYS Anwesenheit braucht. Für mich war die Situation einfach nur abstrus und ehrlich gesagt auch ziemlich unglaubwürdig und konstruiert. Grund dafür, allem voran, die Wünsche, Ziele, PROFESSIONALITÄT und das Auftreten von IZZY.
Ich mag die NEBENCHARAKTERE der Geschichte. Hier gibt es viele und auf mich sehr AUTHENTISCH wirkende Persönlichkeiten. Das macht einige andere Probleme wieder wett.
Insgesamt ist auch diese Geschichte keine meiner liebsten der Autorin und ich bin noch nicht sicher, ob die Neugierde überwiegt und mich den nächsten Teil der Reihe lesen lässt.
Von mir bekommt ALASKAN BOSS - PLÖTZLICH VERLOBT von SAMANTHE BECK 3 von 5 STERNEN.
Das Cover:
Ist ein wenig austauschbar und lässt nicht auf den Inhalt schließen, die Farben erinnern aber an den Winter.
Meine Meinung:
Dies ist nicht das erste Buch welches ich von der Autorin lese und so wusste ich schon, dass mich eine humorvolle und liebevolle Geschichte erwarten wird. Und genau das habe ich auch bekommen, es fehlte nur noch der Weihnachtsbaum und es hätte ein typische winterliche Rom-Com sein können. Und das meine ich im besten Sinne, denn auf sowas stehe ich total.
In Alaka ist es immerhin auch im Frühling noch sehr kalt und Karriere-Frau Isabelle muss das am eigenen Leib erfahren.
Isabelle ist Anwältin und alles andere als begeistert nach Alaska zu fliegen. Mit dem Ziel Partnerin in ihrer Kanzlei zu werden, macht sie aber auch das. Sie konnte aber nicht damit rechnen, dass sie in Alaska nicht nur der attraktive Trace erwartet, sondern auch noch ein überaschender Kuss und eine vorgetäuschte Verlobung.
Trace möchte seine Flug-Firma verkaufen und möchte nicht, dass die komplette Kleinstadt dies erfährt. Also muss eine Ausrede her, warum die hübsche Isabelle da ist. Kurzerhand erklärt er sie zu seiner Verlobten und überrumpelt damit nicht nur die Stadt...
Die Chemie der beiden Protagonisten stimmt einfach. Es macht Spaß die beiden bei ihrer vorgetäuschten Beziehung zu beobachte und die Nebencharaktere machen das Ganze noch schöner. Alle Charaktere sind liebenswert, haben ihre eigene Geschichte und nach und nach decken wir immer mehr von den Beziehungen der Charaktere auf.
Das Buch ist ist wie ein gemütlicher Abend auf dem Sofa. Man fühlt sich einfach wohl und möchte am liebsten die Schneeschuhe anziehen und mit Isabelle das kleine Städtchen erkunden.
Mein Fazit:
Auch die Nebenhandlungen ergeben hier ein stimmiges Bild, es fügt sich alles zusammen und man bekommt einen Einblick in die kommenden Geschichten aus Alaska. Ich freue mich bereits auf eine Rückkehr und empfehle das Buch als Cozy-Read auf jeden Fall weiter.
Amüsanter Liebesroman
Isabelle ist eine sehr erfolgreiche Anwältin aus L. A., welche nur noch eine letzten Auftrag von der Kanzlei-Partnerschaft entfernt ist. Dieser führt sie nach Captivity, einer kleinen Stadt in Alaska. Isabelle verspricht sich sehr viel von dem Aufenthalt, doch ob sie wirklich damit gerechnet hat, was sie dort erleben wird?
"Alaskan Boss - Plötzlich verlobt" ist ein toller Liebesroman von Samanthe Beck, welcher mich vor allem durch den tollen, humorvollen Schreibstil überzeugt hat. Immer wieder wurden extrem witzige Szenen in die Geschichte eingebaut, die den Leser einfach zum schmunzeln bringen und den Tag versüßen.
Isabelle ist eine zielstrebige Frau, die bisher nur für ihren Job gelebt hat. Daher möchte sie die Chance abseits ihrer aktuellen Heimat nutzen um diverse Abenteuer mit Männern zu erleben. Dieser Traum stürzt jedoch sehr schnell in sich zusammen, da ihr Auftraggeber Trace sie in einer Notlüge als seine Verlobte ausgibt.
Trace ist ein sehr fürsorglich und erfolgreicher Mann, der jedoch mit Selbstzweifeln zu kämpfen hat. Er ist wahnsinnig hilfsbereit und gehört einfach zum Inventar der Kleinstadt Captivity. Dabei scheinen sämtliche Einwohner zu glauben, dass sie ihn bei den Vorhaben rund um Isabella unterstützen müssten.
Neben den vielen amüsanten Szenen hält der Roman auch sehr emotionale, aber auch heiße Abschnitte bereit - ein perfekter Mix. In der Geschichte gibt es nicht nur einen Plot Twist, sodass die Spannung sehr lange aufrecht erhalten wird.
Ich hatte sehr viel Spaß beim Lesen der Geschichte, einige Szenen werde ich wohl nie wieder vergessen. Am Ende gibt es einen Cliffhanger zum Folgeband, welcher sich mit Traces Schwester Bridget beschäftigen wird. Ich bin schon sehr gespannt, welche spannenden Geschichten Captivity noch für uns bereit hält. Von mir gibt es eine große Leseempfehlung für alle, die humorvolle Liebesromane mögen.
