A new, sexy standalone from New York Times bestseller, Kendall Ryan.

He has everything a man could want. A lucrative hockey contract. Adoring fans. A family who loves him.

But he’s about to throw it all away. Logan Tate’s name is dominating the headlines for all the wrong reasons. Instead of goals and assists, the talented young defenseman has been racking up fights and suspensions.

I work with athletes who are struggling, but Logan’s different. He’s not just going to blow his season, but his entire career. And now he can’t return to the ice until he deals with his issues, but the stubborn man won’t let anyone get close enough to help.

Which is why I packed up and followed him to his family’s property in the remote mountains of Colorado. He can’t avoid me here.

The only problem?
I can’t avoid him either. He’s chopping wood and building fires, rescuing my car from snowy ditches, and inviting me to Sunday dinners with his loud extended family. He’s a whole lot of man, but beneath all those hard edges is an unexpected tenderness.

Tempted or not, I have to stay out of his bed and get him back to the ice . . . no matter how difficult that might be.

This is a sizzling new romance in the Looking to Score series. Each book can be read as a standalone.

Logan Tate should be living the dream. From the outside he has everything he could possibly want, but on the inside he's struggling to hold it together. He's a rookie defenseman for the Boston Titans hockey team, but lately his mind isn't on hockey. His career with the NHL is on the line after some bad publicity. He's at risk of losing his multimillion-dollar contract if he doesn't fix his issues. The organization wants him to take some time and get his head back in the game. He heads home to the Colorado mountains to be with his big family. He's hoping for some peace and solitude, but then a complete stranger shows up on his property unannounced.

Summer Campbell is a sports psychologist in Boston. She's worked with a lot of athletes, but the latest client she's trying to land will be a challenge. Logan Tate is known for being angry and stubborn. He's making headlines for being a hothead on the ice, and she's headed to his remote hometown to convince him to do counseling. He makes it clear he's not interested in therapy or talking about his feelings. She's there to help him and do her job, but he wants to be left alone, and doesn't make things easy on her. They share an instant attraction that makes the situation even more difficult, but Summer can't ruin this amazing opportunity. She must stay professional or it could ruin her reputation. As their intense connection grows it's harder to resist the pull between them. At the end of their time together will they go their separate ways or find there is something more worth fighting for?

-He may be a rookie, but this man has the body of an all-star.

-Somewhere along the way, Logan Tate and his family have taken up space in my heart. Impossibly and against all common sense, I'm feeling things for this man that I have no right to feel. Achingly hot when he levels me with those deep blue eyes. Haunted by all he's been through. Desperate for the feel of his mouth on mine.

The Rookie (Looking to Score #3) by Kendall Ryan is a sexy standalone, friends to lovers, small town sports romance with all the feels. I loved this grumpy hockey player with all his complex layers, and adored his hilarious, meddling family. This was a wonderful emotional story about healing, trust, family, love and letting yourself be vulnerable. I really enjoyed this couple, and can't wait for the next book in the series!

The Rookie is a sweet, short and vanilla romance. It is the last book I read for 2022. Miss Ryan putting a short novella for this series.

Summer, the heroine is a lonely girl when she growing up. While Logan comes from a big loud family. I like Logan family. They are funny and fun and loud. I can not imagine having that loud of family for holiday.
The story flows nicely although it is a bit mundane. Good thing it is short.

Overall, an OK read.

Lately, it seems like there are more misses than hits from this author, so I’m unsurprised that this was just okay (since I loved the last book). It’s not bad - it’s the kind of light, easy read that I was craving - but it IS pretty unremarkable. I'll probably have trouble remembering the plot in a few days. And that's okay, because sometimes I'm in the mood for something uncomplicated, low angst, and sexy - which this definitely is. These two fall for each other quickly, and forced proximity allows that relationship to grow in a very short period of time. The hero is actually a (surly) sweetheart, and the heroine falls for his family as much as she does him. I've got a few minor complaints, but there was nothing major holding me back from enjoying this exceedingly low angst romance - I binged it in one sitting.

The story follows Logan, a professional hockey player whose career is just getting started. It seemed like everything was working out for Logan, until his father's death sent him reeling. Now Logan is temperamental, picking fights, and getting into trouble on a daily basis. When the team insists that Logan see a therapist, he avoids it as long as possible - until a sports psychologist seeks him out at his family's rural home. Summer's career is also on the line, and she needs the moody hockey star to cooperate. His family is more welcoming than the guy himself, and it's not long before Summer is falling for everything (and everyone) around her. But psychologists are not supposed to date their patients, and Summer could be putting her career in jeopardy by getting Logan's back on track.

While this is part of a series, the book stands completely on its own. Nearly every scene is set at Logan's family home, and there are only brief appearances by his teammates. This is really a book where the forced proximity shines - Logan and Summer's relationship is front and center, only distracted by her many interactions with his family (it felt like the start of a spin-off series, since Logan has some single brothers). I loved the slow burn and the emotional connection, which is only deepened by the therapy scenes. I'm not overly convinced that Summer is a good therapist, lol, but I did like that part of the story. Parts of their relationship feel kind of unhealthy - they fall fast and hard, but they're really two grieving people grasping for any kind of connection. If the book was longer (it's very short), then that probably would've been explored further. But this is a light, easy romance, and a lot of that emotional growth and conflict is glossed over. Ultimately, this wasn't a standout read for me, but I will say that I liked it. I received an early copy and am voluntarily leaving a review of this bittersweet romance.

The Rookie is this third installment in the Looking to Score series by Kendall Ryan. While this sizzling hot, slow-burn sports romance is part of a series, it may be read as a stand-alone. Told in dual perspectives, this is Summer Campbell and Logan Tate's story.

Logan is a talented young rookie who is living the dream. But after the sudden death of his father, he has been struggling mentally. This leads to a fight on the rink, which leaves him suspended for eight games. In order to return, he must get some help to sort out his issues. This is where Summer comes in. She is a sports therapist who is determined to help him, but you can't help someone who won't return your emails or calls. Which is why she packs up and heads out to his family's home in the remote mountains of Colorado. He won't be able to avoid her now.

You will fall in love with this quick and easy, small town sports romance. Ryan kept me swooning, smiling and laughing the whole way through. Filled with feels, flirty banter and a fiery hot romance, I devoured this all in one sitting. Five stars for Summer, Logan and The Rookie!

this book isn't good, is amazing!

if you want a broken hero that has shut down the entire world and a heroine who wants to help him, this book is for you.
he needs to talk to a therapist before being allowed to play again, but he doesn't want to so he goes back to his family home. She needs this job so she decides to find him.
his family was so warm to her, and their romance was so cute.

I loved this book. It’s the perfect sweet romance to get you through a book hangover. Summer has a job to do and falling for her client Logan isn’t one of them. The story takes place up in the Colorado mountains, away from the big city. Summer falls for Logan and his family instantly. Although this is considered a hockey romance there isn’t much mention of hockey so if that’s holding you back don’t let it.

Logan Tate is the star rookie; however, he is also struggling. Now suspended for eight games, he needs to get some help and return to the rink stronger than ever and be the true player he is. Summer is a sports psychologist and she has her work cut out for her when it comes to Logan and getting him to open up. However, now that she is staying on his family’s property, they can’t avoid each other.

I loved the chemistry between Logan and Summer and there is plenty of tension between the two of them. However, with Logan struggling and Summer being there to help him they both try to fight their connection. The slow burn is completely worth it in the end!

I absolutely loved the entire Tate family and I hope that there is more of them in the future!

If you’re looking for a slow burn hockey romance this is one to check out.

Logan Tate has everything a man could want. A lucrative hockey contract, fans, and a family who adores him. But instead of racking up goals and assists, his name is the headlines for all the wrong reasons. That’s where Summer comes into play. Summer works with struggling athletes, but she’s got her work cut out for her where Logan is concerned. So in order to get Logan back on track, Summer finds herself at his family’s property in the mountains of Colorado. What could possibly go wrong??

The Rookie is a quick and easy read that will draw readers in instantly and will leave them wanting more. I loved the dynamic of Logan’s family. They looked out for one another, but weren’t afraid to add humor to the story. Despite Logan’s stubbornness, his chemistry with Summer was off the charts. Their romance was quite the slow burn, but completely satisfying.

Overall, I found this book to an enjoyable read and I think it’s a great addition to the Looking to Score Series. With relatable and fun characters, romance, and just a dash of drama, The Rookie is a romance that you won’t want to miss out on.

This review has a lot more to do with the reviewer than the actual book itself so I am going to break this review up.

OK so the positives to start off, this book has some amazing characters. Logan's family are literally the best. The friendship, love and support throughout this book are amazing. I loved every second of it Logan's family welcomed Summer to their home with open arms. Summer is such a sweet character and Logan has a lot of walls, but once they came down, well, he was a sweetheart. The chemistry between these two was electric. I loved how Kendall wrote this book with a dual POV. It gave us a better understanding of Logan which I really enjoyed.

Now for the second part. Like I said this is more to do with the reader, than the actual book itself. Summer is such a lovely character, however, that being said, I couldn't unsee the number of inaccuracies and ethical issues in her professional.
Being a trained psychotherapist myself, I knew when a line was crossed. Now don't get me wrong, I'm all for taboo relationships etc, I rather enjoy that trope. This unfortunately was more than that. Summer is an amazing character, however, from the very beginning, she was not in the right mind frame to help a client (Logan). While in training (in Ireland) and when you are completely qualified, a psychotherapist has to continue with their own counselling and personal development, in order to not to transfer emotions and feelings onto their clients. To be there completely for their clients. Summer seemed to have jumped right over all of that. Also from the moment, she had "romantic" feelings for him she should have referred him to another therapist.

If I wasn't a psychotherapist myself, and I didn't know about ethics etc, I would have loved this book. It flowed well and the characters were amazing. Unfortunately, this book was not for me.

Thank you to the author for a copy of this e-arc in exchange for an honest review.

4.5⭐

Kendall Ryan has done it again. The Rookie rocks!!! And had me hooked from the very first page. As Logan is a grieving, vulnerable, angry, gorgeous hockey player and Summer is a sports therapist whose tasked with helping Logan deal with his anger and grief and get him back on the ice. That's if she can find him first.

And with so many feels, a beautifully crafted romance, and the brilliant Tate family who include a funny grandpa, a mum who likes to dose mugs of tea with CBD and Logan's three brothers who would rather solve arguments with their fists than words. This truly was a brilliant and hard to put down story. And I'm so excited for what comes next. But honestly, it's going to have to be good because The Rookie stole my heart.

Would happily recommend.

4.5 SMOOCHES!

The third book in Kendall Ryan’s Looking to Score series, The Rookie is a touching and steamy opposites attract, forbidden sports romance. I love Kendall’s writing so much. Her stories run the gamut from fun, lighter-hearted reads to romantic comedies to contemporary romances full of feels and fire. I love this series so much—I can’t get enough of these players and their stories! Kendall Ryan has done a phenomenal job with all of her hockey romances, but this series is a bit more emotional and angsty.

Logan and Summer’s story pairs a young, angry hockey player in a downward spiral with his team-appointed counselor. Logan Tate has it all, but he’s lost what mattered most to him. He’s a talented hockey player, but his on-ice performance is suffering. He’s distracted, he’s depressed, and he’s discouraged. That frustration builds until it finally erupts, and his coach has no choice but to act. Summer is just starting her own business counseling athletes, and in the male dominated sports healthcare profession, she’s got her work cut out for her.

The problem is that pesky chemistry between them. Holed up on his family’s ranch in Colorado, she gets a full helping of the entire Tate family. For a girl who’s alone in this world, his family sucks her in and she falls just as hard for them as she does for Logan. But with her budding career on the line, she’s got hard choices to make.

The Rookie was a sexy, tender, emotional love story.  I loved Logan and Summer, I loved the side characters, especially Logan’s hilarious family, and I couldn’t read this one fast enough. I can’t wait for the next book in this series! The Rookie by Kendall Ryan gets 4.5 smooches from me!

You will cheer Logan on in this story of a guy who has it all, but doesn't realize it. When he's suspended by his team, he heads home because he feels that's where he needs to be to clear his head. When Summer, eager to grow her therapy practice heads to Denver to try to get him on board and try to help him return to hockey, she's met with resistance from Logan, and nothing but welcoming love from his mom.
Read along and enjoy their story as it unfolds. 4 stars for this one!

The Rookie is the third book in the Looking To Score series and one that was not the typical sports romance you come to expect.

Logan and Summer's book is a beautiful heartwarming story filled with loss and grief but also finding love and the true meaning of family. I loved the way the Tate family embraced Summer into their fold and watching the growth of them all through their loss and healing.

This was a story that focused more on the player than the team and one that caught me off guard with all the feels.

Another hockey bad boy is about to be taken down!

Logan has been suspended for fighting on the ice. His anger is controlling him and ruining his game and possibly his future in the NHL. After he's suspended from play, he heads home to his small town, Lost Haven, in Colorado to get centered and spend time with his family.

Logan can only play again after being cleared by a sports psychologist, but he wants no part of that. That's how Summer finds herself in Lost Haven with the Tate family. She just started her own business and landing Logan Tate as a client would be a game changer. Good thing she is driven and persistent, because Logan is going to be a challenge.

You'll fall in love with this small town, hockey romance. The Tate clan is chock full of amazing people. A mother who has no problem butting in and slipping you some "calming" tea, a grandpa who is all seeing and all knowing and four brothers that will punch you as quickly as lend you an ear. The love is loud and in abundance. They welcome Summer's presence openly and everyone takes a liking to her. She's there to do a job, but ends up with a whole lot more.

A fun, yet emotional read that delivers heat and a beautiful forever. Logan and Summer share some chemistry, and even when they try and keep things strictly professional they can't resist. Summer will work to help Logan open up and learn to handle his anger and Logan will give her a family to love and that loves her back.

I hope the Tate boys get their own stories...hint hint!

This is the best book that Kendall Ryan has ever written! Logan is a great character who is grieving his father death and has to keep his high maintenance job as a hockey player along with making amends with his family. The book is really about grief since it is what really bonds Logan and Summer, her understanding of the anger and loneliness that he is feeling since because of this job he must be apart from his family in Montana.
The writing is superb, and the characters are so well developed and endearing. Initially Logan is just an important client for her business, but it slowly and deeply become a question of trust and love for them.
The Tate family is something else! Logan's mother is what I want to be in the future for my daughter and there is a scene in the chicken coop that will be long remembered in the romance community!
I just loved this book!

This was a lovely story, but as much as I like the cozy and sexy romance I felt like nothing really happened, and it was just a bit too sweet for me. Logan's past and the issues with his family was very interesting, but it was just skimmed on the surface. It had so much potential, but not much was resolved in the end. This was a great addition, but I just wish it was maybe a bit longer, with more focus on some plots in this story.

Erin Mallon and Jason Clarke did an amazing job with these characters. And I'm really excited for the next book in this series.

The Rookie🏑

Logan is the newest player on the Boston Titans team but after losing his father suddenly, he seems to have gone slightly off the rails. Now he’s facing a suspension and possibly forfeiture of his multi- million dollar contract for hockey😢 However, the NHL has a plan and Summer gets sent in as she’s a sports psychologist and hopefully she can help❣️But they both get more than they bargained for when they start falling for each other😍

A great story of love for Logan and Summer with lots of laugh out loud moments with Logan’s family😂 I received an advanced copy via Booksprout and voluntarily leave my honest review❤️

2,5 stars.

A book with a lot of potential. Unfortunately there were a lot of unbelievable elements that didn’t work for me. For starters, Summer being a counselor was a joke. What did she do? She acted as his friend not his therapist. Then all the lines she crossed was not professional at all. She was the one who came on to him, not the other way around. Logan had issues and could use some anger management, but nothing was resolved. What deep questions did she ask? Which tasks did she gave him to help him? None. I’m not a counselor, but I know this is not the way to help a human being back on track. The main subject of this book was shoved aside for the romance. This could’ve been executed so much better.

Then book 3 in this “sports” romance series doesn’t involve sports again. We got a breadcrumb and that’s all. I wanted it to have more about this topic, but the whole storyline takes place outside the rink. Just as book 1 and 2. But perhaps this is the whole intention of the author. I don’t know.

I liked Logan’s family and the setting on their farm. I would like to see a new series involving Logan’s brothers. There’s slight hinting to that in the epilogue with Graham and his neighbor. We have to wait and see. I had to warm up to Logan, but once his defensive mask fell I really liked him. I hated Summer, didn’t like her at all. She didn’t sound very convincing and I disapproved the things she did. The ending confirmed to me that this book was so unbelievable. I preferred another epilogue or at least not “2 months later”. But that’s my personal opinion.

It’s clear that this isn’t my favorite in the series, of even a favorite of all Kendall’s books. A miss for me. Only rounding it up to 2,5 stars because of Logan and his family.

Safe read. Hero not a manwhore. Sex life of both isn’t discussed. No OW/OM drama, cheating or sex with OP.

3.5 stars. I really wanted to love this one and probably would have if it was heavily expanded on. Why write something that includes heavy topics (death of a parent & counseling) if it’s not really focused on? I did appreciate Logan’s large family and how they immediately accepted Summer into their home. I also really wish that it wasn’t so insta! The time frame here was so unbelievable to me and it took away from the story.

The Rookie by Kendall Ryan was a sweet and sexy slow burn forbidden romance. This book left me feeling all warm and gooey inside, and really made me appreciate the importance of family! This is book 3 in the Looking to Score series, and Logan Tate absolutely stole my heart.

Logan Tate is a grumpy, ill tempered rookie in the professional hockey world. Logan is troubled due to a recent loss in his life, and is having a difficult time coping and keeping it together. Summer Campbell is a new sports psychologist, who is hoping to snag a high profile client like Logan to help her business get up and running. Flying from Boston to the remote town of Lost Haven, CO to track Logan down, was supposed to be a quick trip. However when Summer meets Logan's family a void is filled in her heart. The more Summer hangs around Logan and his family, the more she realizes remaining just a sports psychologist may be more difficult than she planned.

The chemistry between Logan and Summer is magnetic. I adored the setting of the story, and now may need to go rent a cozy cabin in the mountains of Colorado! This book made me laugh, (CBD tea) had hot steamy moments, (cabin sex...), and made my heart swoon (perfect HEA)! Kendall has created memorable and charismatic characters that you can't help but fall in love with! I look forward to Saint's story next!

I really enjoyed Logan and Summer. I liked their chemistry, their attraction, and how they were each reluctant (at first) to be involved with one another, although for different reasons.

I liked that this one is a book about a hockey player, but one out of the "world" of hockey and set mostly in Colorado at Logan's family's home. The dynamic added to that by the family, and them being outside of the hockey world made it feel a little different than the normal hockey hero trope.

I also liked the conflict, not only between them but as they figured out a way to not only get along and see things somewhat from the other's point of view, but also as they decided how much they were willing to risk for the relationship to move forward.

Overall, I enjoyed and recommend this title.

Logan Tate is a hot headed rookie who’s about to blow his shot. After a fight that lands him an 8 game suspension he goes home to Colorado with his tail between his legs.
Summer is an ambitious woman with Logan Tate in her sights. She wants him as a client and has been given the job of getting him cleared to play again. So she travels all the way to the mountains to secure the deal.
What she doesn’t expect when she arrives is a warm welcome from the loud Tate clan but a frosty one from the man she’s there to help.
I love the warmth and familiarity of this story. I just want to sit in momma Tate’s kitchen while she bakes and listen to Grandpa Al snore in his recliner.
The slow burn of Summer and Logan’s romance is satisfying and frustrating in equal measure, but when things finally heat up, it’s sweet and sexy.
By the end of this book I felt a sense of comfort and family that brought tears to my eyes.
A heartwarming story of love, family and acceptance.

Tender and moving
4.5
The story shouldn't be called the rookie, but the rookies because both Logan, a new player on the ice hockey team, and Summer, the psychologist who is there to assess and help him, are at a new turning point in their life and career. Summer has to go find him in his environment because as he is suspended, he has fled to his family.
Their relationship must be professional and cannot be personal by definition, so part of the story is predictable.
However, this story remains a good, hot, tender romance, against the backdrop of the difficulty of rebuilding oneself after the death of a family member.
