Tenure-Track Faculty, Department of Health Administration and Policy
George Mason University, Department of Health Administration and Policy, is looking for an enthusiastic and energetic person for a full-time 9-month, mid-career, tenure-track faculty position in Health Informatics. Responsibilities:
The position will serve as the teaching and research faculty in the
Department of Health Information and Policy, teaching courses
consistent with their background/expertise across HAP’s Health
Informatics programs (BS through PhD). All HAP tenure-track faculty
teach across the graduate and undergraduate curriculum in with
varied responsibilities including but not limited to teaching,
research and securing external funding, graduate curriculum and
dissertation guidance, student advisement, university and community
service. Because our faculty is composed of scholars from many
academic and professional disciplines, and because, we collaborate
with faculty throughout George Mason University, we are especially
interested in bringing in a colleague whose work can transcend
disciplinary boundaries, especially with the other CHHS
departments, the Volgeneau School of Engineering and College of
Science at GMU.
Required Qualifications:
Qualified applicants must possess 1) an earned doctorate in health
informatics, information technology, systems engineering,
computational science, computer science and/or health professional
degree related to applied health informatics; 2) an established
record of scholarly activity, 3) teaching experience or potential,
4) demonstrated ability to secure external funding and 5) effective
interpersonal communication skills.
Priority will be given to applicants with research experience and successful external funding in health informatics or related areas. This includes basic and applied research in natural language processing, machine learning, image processing and data mining combined with work experience in health data as well as health privacy and cyber security.
College of Health and Human Services faculty will initially be appointed in one of the 6 academic units comprising the College depending upon interests and expertise (i.e., Global and Community Health, Health Administration, Policy and Informatics, Nursing, Nutrition and Food Studies, Rehabilitation Sciences, and Social Work), and then in the department of epidemiology and biostatistics that is currently being built. The College has 7 accredited degree programs and is now located in the new Peterson Family Health Sciences Hall that comprises 165,000 square feet of offices, conference rooms, classrooms, and wet and dry labs. The College’s research infrastructure also includes imaging resources (DEXA, fMRI, movement capture) and physical and metabolic assessment tools. In the next year, the College will be opening its population health center that will support primary and behavioral health care, research and training. The College is strategically transitioning to build Virginia’s first College of Public Health. Further information about the College may be found at: https://chhs.gmu.edu.
