How to Decorate Your Courtyard for Christmas

I am so happy to be joining Jenny Williamson once again this year for the Holiday Home Tour. If you are visiting from my friend Rhoda’s Southern Hospitality blog welcome! Today I am sharing How to Decorate Your Courtyard for Christmas.

2022-Holiday-Home-Tour-Graphic

For those of you new here, we recently moved to the Paso Robles Wine Country. We have a lovely enclosed courtyard in our new home. Let’s take a tour of it all decked out for Christmas. Our new home is color coated in a warm neutral and the stone accents are also in warm tones. I chose a butterscotch color ribbon to complement the existing colors of the home rather than compete with it.

Once you pass through the gate there is an entry area where we have placed a long table that we purchased locally from Habitat Home and Garden. Above it hangs a rack from Brazil. that resided in the mudroom in our former home.

I filled a basket with greens from our yard and faux berries.

Hanging on the rack are artifacts we have collected over the years including the Swedish spoon rack.

The courtyard fountain was purchased by the former owners in France. I filled one of my vintage watering cans with more greens foraged from my yard.

I decorated the fireplace with more foraged greens. The mantel clock is from Home Depot here.

The planters on either side of the fireplace are from Atelier de Campaigne. and are filled with lemon trees. The ribbon was found on Etsy.

The zinc bowl from Atrium Mercantile in Atascadero on the coffee table is filled with foraged greens and pine cones. The coffee table is from Dovetail Furniture. Pottery Barn has a similar one here.

I added more foraged greens to the gas lights and the planters.

HI, Cindy, your new courtyard is absolutely stunning! You have such a touch in decorating with naturals. I would love to do more of that, but I have all these Christmas decorations to use. You always have just the right things to use and it looks gorgeous in your outdoor spaces. Have a wonderful Christmas & holiday season!

      Hi Rhoda

Thank you so much. I like to work with natural elements when I can but I certainly am not afraid of incorporating faux here and there! Happy Holidays to you too Rhoda!

  4. Cindy@CountyRoad407 says

Wowza! Everything looks amazing and I love how different it looks from so many other outdoor spaces. Even down to the color of the ribbon. It’s truly beautiful. And how fun to have a fountain! Hope you have a wonderful holiday season and can sit outside and enjoy all of that hard work!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Cindy

Thank you so much. I always think it is important to incorporate the colors of the landscape into my designs rather than fight it. The stone walls were my guide.

  5. Tammy says

Cindy, your new home is stunning. I love the rack with the collected artifacts especially the Swedish spoons. What a great find. Also, I am loving those planters on each side of your fireplace. Stunning fireplace too! It’s such a beautiful outdoor space for the holidays.

      Hi Tammy

Thank you so much. We absolutely love it here and are so grateful to the former owners for creating such a magical place.

      Hi Annie

Thank you so much! I sure loved your dining room with the festive snowflakes and the charming place cards.

  9. Mary Ann Pickett says

This is simply spectacular and you are killing me that so much you could forage! Excellent.

  10. Christel Thomas says

Hi Cindy, I have been following your blog for quite a while and really enjoy it very much, however, take another look at the very pretty clock and see if you would agree with me, that the Roman numeral VI (6)is at the top where usually the number 12 (XII) should be?

    • Cindy Hattersley says

Ha! That is called me shifting it around for the photos! The clock does actually work though I only wanted it for the look. You are very observant Christel!!

  11. michele@hellolovely says

Cindy! It looks stunning! Those huge planters flanking the fireplace are making me drool. And the Swedish spoon rack. I hadn’t thought of using my vintage watering cans, but you have sealed it. All of the unique touches and unexpected wonder. But then again, you had me at the gate! Thanks for sharing your courtyard and inspiring home. xox

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Michelle

  12. Juliet says

Wow, Cindy! I’m in love with your new home … and the courtyard is even more amazing decked out for the holidays. You have the magic styling touch. I love this tour so much and I’m inspired to get out to zhush up my little front porch. xo

  13. Nancy Brantley says

Cindy, why do you have to be different and so perfect!!!! Ha Ha…..absolutely naturally beautiful! People spend thousands of dollars on Christmas Decor and don’t even look as classic and pretty as yours!

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Nancy

Thank you so much. I am a firm believer in foraging and using what you have. I have often toiled for hours over an arrangement only to realize that some of the simplest are best.

  14. eileen chdwick says

Just beautiful..love it all. Question ..I notice you always use 2 back pillows on your chairs inside and out..does it mean you remove one?

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Eileen

I am a bit of a pillow fanatic admittedly. However, the Ballard chairs are deep and my family is not blessed with height except our son in law and now Summer. I need both pillows on a deeper chair. My son in law however removes the second one!!

  15. Sheila says

Cindy wow!! Your courtyard is just stunning – and soo up my alley!! I’m especially in love with those planters – and the sweet basket holding the greenery is also just adorable.

    It looks amazing and oh-so-cozy!!

    Happy Holidays!

  17. Katherine says

So wonderful that you can step out into your yard and create such natural beauty.
I see lemons in your lemon trees already. They must be very happy in that location. Your butterscotch ribbon added such a great non traditional touc.h. Leave it to you to think of such a great idea.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Katherine

You are right we are getting quite a few lemons now. That is what I really missed from our Chualar home. We purchased these while still in our rental/fixer upper. Thankfully they are producing now!!

  18. Lynda says

Hi it’s always a treat to read ur blog but I’ve been recognizing that they always show pictures, then say not available..why put them in the pics?? Just notice it happens so much when I read the blogs..thx

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Lynda

Well, that is the dilemma in the blog world. Things can disappear quickly, particularly with fashion. I try to give my readers ideas of how they can work with what they have to get a similar look. If I purchased everything new for each post I would have to invest a fortune. I would not recommend that and that’s not my thing. I try to create vignettes that you can copy or emulate if you wish.

  19. Sue m says

Love how festive and unique you’ve made your courtyard just like your wardrobe…completely Cindy!🌿🧡🌿

  20. kim says

Cindy this is so gorgeous and so California Christmas! I don’t know how you do it after just hosting 35 for Thanksgiving! I love the baskets and the foraged greens with the lemons. I may need to add more citrus to my decor this Christmas. You always inspire. I pinned all of it. This tour is fun and excited to read all the blogs each day ! x Kim
P.S.Also wanted to say I LOVE the yellow bows. I am a big fan of non-traditional colors at Christmas. They look so fresh and modern

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Kim

Well we didn’t have 35 we were actually less due to illness I think around 25. I haven’t done red and green for years. Maybe I will one day? I try to compliment the colors in and outside my home at Christmas.

  21. Gray says

The courtyard is just wonderful. Very inviting! And such a variety of greens from your property. I love it! Thanks for the tour!
I just read an old post about your trip to Atlanta’s Mart. Makes me nostalgic! Good no?
I think it’s better than Dallas and Vegas.

    • Cindy Hattersley says

      Hi Gray

We love our outdoor spaces. We have to thank the former owners for them. Love the mart at Atlanta & Scotts. Debra are you listening I will be your slave anytime!!
