MI List has been supporting pro-choice progressive women running for state and local offices for 20 years and we have plenty to be proud of! In 2023, women now are the majority of Democratic lawmakers in Lansing and Winnie Brinks, a MI List multiple endorsee, serves as the Senate Majority Leader - the first women to lead a majority caucus.
We have helped elect a new generation of leaders who will usher our state into a new era of equity, justice and freedom for all Michiganders. Since Democrats took control of both chambers this year, we've seen a return to people-centered policies including the repeal of the 1931 abortion ban, common sense gun laws, historic investments in public education, workers' rights and protections, and non-discrimination laws protecting our LGBTQ+ community.
And although these changes are what we've been working toward for decades, we cannot stop. Democrats hold razor thin majorities in both chambers and the Michigan House is Republicans top priority for turning back the clock. We cannot stop supporting the women who step up to run and serve the people of Michigan.
Our upcoming event will recognize and celebrate the achievements of five outstanding women who work tirelessly to bring reproductive, social and economic justice to all Michiganders. We will honor the nearly 50 years of public service by our US Senator, Debbie Stabenow, and for the first time, we will recognize the efforts of an organization that has been a powerhouse for supporting a better Michigan. Fems for Dems was formed in 2016 and now boasts more than 5000 volunteers.
