More wintry weather is in the forecast for Wednesday afternoon.

The weather starts off quiet on Wednesday as clouds thicken. The main focus is in the afternoon as a warm front associated with the next storm system begins to enter the region. This is when Storm Team 10 will have a Weather Alert Day go into effect because of the impacts on the evening commute.

The leading edge of the precipitation shield pushes in from the south on Wednesday afternoon between 1-4 PM. Yet, the one major obstacle is the dry air in the mid-levels of the atmosphere that will erode much of the snow before it reaches the surface.

Eventually, the snow is able to overcome the dry air, and once it does, snowfall intensity ramps up quickly.

Moderate to heavy snow during the evening commute will reduce visibility and lead to icy roadways in spots.

The one variable working in our favor during this event is the marginal temperatures. With temperatures hovering slightly above freezing, it may be more difficult for snow to accumulate efficiently, meaning most snowfall will pile up on cold surfaces rather than on treated roads.

After a brief thumping of snow, precipitation transitions to rain between 6-8 PM as warm air rushes into the region.

Periods of heavy rain continue to roll through Southern New England for the rest of the overnight hours.

Even though the snow will catch all of the headlines with this system, the rain, and the wind are no joke. Gusts Wednesday night/early Thursday along the coastline reach 50+ mph.

It'll be a soaker, too, with widespread 1-2 inches of total precipitation.

This storm system ends early Thursday morning, giving way to peeks of sunshine during the day. Expect the quietest stretch of weather we've seen in over a month, with no precipitation in the forecast through Sunday.
