A 16-year-old Mt. Pleasant High School student is being treated at Hasbro Children's Hospital after he was stabbed multiple times in Providence on Tuesday.

Providence police say another teenager, 18-year-old Caleb Whelan, is facing a felony assault charge in connection to the incident.

Whelan is a student at Hope High School.

The name of the victim was not immediately released.

Witnesses waved down Providence police to Bus Stop D at 99 Kennedy Plaza at about 4 p.m. on Tuesday for a person suffering from multiple stab wounds.

As rescues were called to the scene, witnesses told police that a crowd formed around a group of juveniles who were fighting before the violent incident occurred.

Police gave first aid to the 16-year-old victim, who had lacerations on his arm, face, leg, and the center of his back.

A tourniquet was applied to his arm on scene before he was rushed to the hospital, where he is in stable condition.

Police taped off the area and BCI responded to photograph the scene.
