Three people were found dead inside a home in Andover, Massachusetts, early Thursday morning.

Investigators said a man apparently shot and killed his wife and 12-year-old son before taking his own life.

Essex County District Attorney Paul Tucker and Andover Police Chief Patrick Keefe said it appears to be a "tragic case of domestic violence."

The district attorney said Andover police got a 911 call from the Porter Road home at about 3:20 a.m.

Officers forced their way into the house.

"Inside, they found a 56-year-old man, a 55-year-old woman and their son, all deceased from gunshot wounds," a release said.

They were Andrew Robinson, his wife, Linda, and their son, Sebastian.

"The incident appears to be a tragic case of domestic violence and murder-suicide," the release said. "Andrew Robinson died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound."

Andover is north of Boston near the New Hampshire border.

Keefe said investigators were trying to determine what led to the violence.

“There is no danger to the public, at all," Tucker said. "This entire situation was contained within the address here.”

Massachusetts State Police are also part of investigation.

The apparent murder-suicide in Andover is the third in a recent string of family tragedies in Massachusetts.

A woman in Duxbury is accused of killing her children, and a Cohasset man is accused of killing and dismembering his wife around New Year's Day.
