Elementary school custodian faces child pornography charges

Rhode Island State Police said an elementary school custodian is facing child pornography charges.

Ronald Plante, 58, of Coventry, is accused of downloading files containing child pornography.

State Police said Plante has been an employee of Chariho Regional School District for 15 years, and is assigned to Hope Valley Elementary School. He also has spent the last 10 years as a custodian at North Kingstown Free Library.

Investigators said there is no evidence at this time that suggests students or library patrons were impacted.

Officers executed on a search warrant on Feb. 7, and identified Plante as the owner of the digital media used to obtain the inappropriate materials.

Plante turned himself him to police on Thursday. He is charged with one count of child pornography possession.

He was arraigned and released on a $20,000 personal recognize bail on Thursday and was ordered not to have unsupervised contact with minors.
